OverviewJob Title: Laboratory ManagerDepartment: Physiology & Medical PhysicsReporting To: Professor of Physiology or nomineeTenure: Specified purpose contract, up to 6 months; Part-time (0.7 FTE)Closing date: 7th of September 2025Objective of the PostTo manage and maintain the laboratory facilities to ensure the quality of research and undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and support the commercialisation and administrative activities of the Department.ResponsibilitiesEnsuring that the laboratory is run to world class standards and in a cost-effective manner and that laboratory equipment is functional and safe to useEnsuring that the laboratory complies with Health and Safety and EPA legislation and all RCSI policies and regulations relating to the operating environmentsProviding training for students and staff members on specialized equipment or complex techniques that require skill / trainingFacilitating research and the integration of teaching and research by organizing laboratory placements of studentsOverseeing scientific data management and intellectual property protectionMaintaining laboratory equipment to the required standards and specifications and providing access, training and support for research infrastructuresEnsuring efficient and cost-effective procurement of suppliesImplementing internal cost-saving strategies (including reagents and biological waste management)Becoming a member of the Class I and Class II Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) committee and other College committees relating to research, postgraduate teaching and administrative activitiesLiaising with administrative departments (Building Services, Research Office, Finance, Human Resources, Medical Faculty) to implement policies relating to the research, postgraduate teaching, commercialisation and administrative activities of the DepartmentProviding administrative and project management support on initiatives which improve the overall performance of the DepartmentSupporting the development of excellence in quality and delivery of serviceAssisting in the financial management of the DepartmentUndergoing programmes of training and development as may be required from time to timeRepresenting the best interests of the Department/College at all timesPerforming such other duties as may be required from time to timeQualifications and Person SpecificationThe successful candidate should possess a B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in the life or health sciencesExperience in recombinant DNA technology, molecular biology, cell biology and molecular physiology techniques is desirableStrong planning, organisational and management skills with the ability to focus on and produce results and prioritise objectivesAbility to make decisions and meet deadlinesEffective communication style appropriate to audience and situationAbility to work on one’s own initiative as well as in a team environmentFlexibility to work irregular hours on occasionWe are all too aware that imposter syndrome and the confidence gap can sometimes stop fantastic candidates putting themselves forward, so please do submit an application — we’d love to hear from you.Seniority levelEntry levelEmployment typeContractJob functionResearchIndustriesHigher EducationWe’re not able to provide further information via this listing.
