Overview
Deputy Project Manager role at WSP in the UK & Ireland. The Ireland Roads team is seeking a Deputy Project Manager/Principal Engineer with experience in the Roads Sector to contribute to major national road schemes and local authority transport improvements across Ireland. The role involves delivering project management support on major road schemes and providing professional/technical guidance to ensure continuous improvement in project management services.
What You Will Do
As Deputy Project Manager, your role focuses on delivering the core function of providing project management support on Major Road schemes, including:
* Delivery management of individual tasks, analysis and problem solving, preparation of briefing plans and progress reports, programme updates, and financial administration (in-month updates, month-end reporting, invoicing).
* Supporting the Project Manager in delivering the project, with activities centered on Business / Quality Management System processes and tools, including contract, change, risk or resource management, earned value analysis, and project reviews / audits or lessons learnt analysis.
* Leading a team of project staff where appropriate, providing professional/technical guidance and coaching to raise skill and knowledge levels and drive continuous improvement in project management services.
* Owning personal development, identifying training opportunities, and working with a mentor to establish a career development plan.
These responsibilities are intended to provide a broad range of activities under supervision of skilled professionals to support knowledge development and career progression.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
The successful candidate will be:
* Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or another appropriate subject and a member of an appropriate professional engineering institution.
* Experience of working to UK or Ireland Roads standards is essential.
* Capable of working to tight project timescales, able to work under pressure, with good communication and teamwork skills.
* Demonstrates clear and successful project management skills and technical competence in highway engineering.
* Full driving licence.
* Flexibility and willingness to expand knowledge and take lead outside the core discipline.
* Proven track record of dealing with clients and fostering professional, customer-focused relationships.
* Experience of Contract Preparation and Contract Supervision using NEC forms of contract.
* Experience mentoring and guiding junior staff.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
