Job Title
We are seeking a skilled professional to fill the role of Utilities Engineer. The ideal candidate will have experience in utility engineering teams, preferably in a manufacturing GMP environment.
About the Role
The Utilities Engineer is responsible for establishing and maintaining the reliable operation and qualified state of clean utility systems and supporting grey systems that support biotech manufacturing. This includes ensuring processes are in-control, compliant, and capable of meeting manufacturing needs, while also driving process continuous improvement.
The Utilities Engineer will lead troubleshooting efforts to resolve difficult unit operations, equipment, and operational issues. They will evaluate all activities for impact on the qualified state of equipment and utilize appropriate tools as necessary.
The Utilities Engineer will work closely with the area team to ensure a safe working environment by following safety rules and helping improve the safety culture. They will provide clean system engineering expertise and maintain clean system unit operations and equipment in a qualified and reliable state.
Safety:
The Utilities Engineer will take responsibility for the safe design and safe operation of equipment within the area. They will actively participate in safety-related activities (audits, hazard reviews, pre-start-up safety reviews) to drive ongoing safety improvement.
Bio-process Technical Support:
The Utilities Engineer will be the point of contact and technical expert for equipment and processes in their area of responsibility. This includes a clear understanding of unit operations and associated equipment operations. They will monitor utility systems and optimize unit operations and equipment performance.
The Utilities Engineer will lead troubleshooting efforts relating to unit operations, equipment, and operational issues. They will utilize formal problem-solving techniques, including Root Cause Analysis, to resolve unit operations and equipment issues.
Maintain Qualified and Reliable State:
The Utilities Engineer will evaluate all activities for impact on the qualified state of unit operations/equipment and utilize appropriate business processes as necessary. They will be responsible for system/component classification and maintenance strategy for equipment.
The Utilities Engineer will implement corrections, corrective actions, and countermeasures arising from investigations. They will participate in Periodic Reviews for systems and equipment and lead IQ/OQ/PQ activities (including commissioning activities of new unit operations/equipment).
Asset Management:
The Utilities Engineer will develop scope for capital projects targeted at both short- and longer-term needs. They will act as user representative for local projects. The Utilities Engineer will understand equipment reliability issues with the objective of improvement.
Improve the Business:
The Utilities Engineer will identify and drive improvement opportunities (procedural changes, upgrades, projects etc) associated with unit operations/equipment within the area.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in Utility Engineering Teams, preferably in a manufacturing GMP environment.
* Third Level Engineering or Science Qualification or equivalent education or experience.
* Confident in talking to a wide range of people to build relationships, and ability to build and maintain strong relationships with site stakeholders including site lead team, production, quality, safety, and global engineering.
