Road Freight Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of road freight logistics, ensuring timely delivery, safety compliance, and efficient coordination between teams. Below is a detailed job description for this role:
Operational Control
· Oversee the daily operations of road freight transportation, ensuring smooth execution of shipments.
· Supervise and coordinate applicable drivers, loaders, and other logistics staff.
· Monitor routing schedules, delivery times, and ensure compliance with time-sensitive deliveries.
· Ensure that all shipments are dispatched on time and delivered within the agreed timeframes.
Team Management
· Manage a team of freight logistics personnel, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.
· Provide training and guidance to staff on safety protocols, company standards, and customer service.
· Conduct performance reviews and manage staffing schedules to ensure proper coverage.
Compliance & Safety
· Ensure that all road freight activities comply with transportation laws, regulations, and company policies.
· Monitor applicable subcontractors' adherence to safety standards, including proper vehicle maintenance and the use of safety gear.
· Engaged with the quality team to ensure vehicles used are compliant with legal and safety requirements, scheduling routine maintenance and inspections.
· Ensure the quality team conduct and record regular safety briefings and audits to minimize accidents and operational risks.
Coordination & Communication
· Coordinate with the warehouse, customer service, and sales teams to ensure smooth communication and service delivery.
· Maintain close communication with applicable subcontractors to address any issues that arise on the road (e.g., delays, accidents, vehicle breakdowns).
· Provide real-time updates to customers and internal teams on the status of shipments.
· Point of escalation for operational issues, resolving problems quickly to ensure customer satisfaction.
Resource Management
· Oversee the allocation of vehicles and other resources based on delivery schedules and customer needs.
· Monitor and control operational costs, such as fuel, maintenance, and labor expenses.
Reporting & Documentation
· Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), such as on-time delivery rates, vehicle utilization, and customer feedback.
Submit daily/weekly/monthly reports to the National Freight Manager on operational performance.
