Cost and inventory accountant

Dublin
Life Scientific
Accountant

Offer description

Life Scientific operates in a $250 billion global crop protection market.
We reverse-engineer off-patent crop protection products and bring them to market with the same quality, safety and performance as the original - helping farmers access high-quality solutions while challenging how the industry thinks about innovation.
As we continue to grow internationally, our product portfolio, sourcing footprint and distribution network are expanding quickly.
That growth creates opportunity - but also complexity.
Inventory moves across countries, currencies and supply chains. Products are sourced globally and delivered to markets around the world.
Which means inventory isn’t just stock on a balance sheet.
It’s margin.
It’s working capital.
It’s operational discipline.
And that’s where this role comes in.
The Cost & Inventory Accountant will play a central role in ensuring our inventory and product cost environment remains accurate, transparent and scalable as the business grows.
The Opportunity
In a growing international business, inventory can either be controlled - or it can quietly control you.
This role exists to ensure it’s the former.
As Cost & Inventory Accountant, you will take ownership of the integrity of our inventory and product cost environment across multiple jurisdictions.
You’ll operate right at the intersection of Finance, Supply Chain and Commercial teams, helping ensure that:

stock values are accurate
standard costs reflect reality
landed costs are fully captured
variances are understood
and changes in trade or tariffs don’t quietly erode margin

This isn’t a back-office reporting role.
It’s a control-and-insight role.
You’ll help bring clarity to a complex international inventory model - and play a key role in protecting margin as Life Scientific continues to scale.
This Role Is For You If You…
You don’t fully trust a stock number until you’ve reconciled it yourself.
You naturally ask questions like:

Why has this margin moved?
Is this variance structural or timing?
Are landed costs fully captured?
Is this inventory valuation really accurate?

You enjoy digging into transaction flows - from purchase order all the way through to sale.
You’re comfortable working with large datasets and spotting anomalies.
You see standard costing as a living system, not just a spreadsheet someone updates once a year.
You’re curious about how operations work - and you’re happy to sit with Supply Chain or walk a warehouse floor to understand what’s actually happening.
You like bringing order to complexity.
And you enjoy helping teams understand the story behind the numbers.
What You’ll Own

Perform regular stock reconciliations across all entities
Ensure ERP records reconcile to physical stock and warehouse data
Investigate and resolve reconciling items with Supply Chain and Operations
Monitor slow-moving, obsolete and damaged stock, ensuring appropriate provisions
Maintain robust documentation and audit-ready records

Standard Cost Management

Own and maintain the standard cost file across the product portfolio
Coordinate cost roll-ups reflecting input price, freight and duty changes
Ensure new SKUs are correctly costed before being released to market
Communicate cost impacts clearly to Finance and Commercial stakeholders

Variance Analysis & Insight

Analyse purchase price, usage and overhead variances monthly
Provide structured commentary on the drivers behind movements
Identify trends indicating procurement, pricing or operational issues
Ensure variances are properly reflected in management accounts

Landed Cost & Trade Complexity

Capture and allocate landed costs (freight, insurance, customs duties, handling) accurately
Maintain a clear and auditable landed cost framework across geographies
Monitor tariff classifications and import duties relevant to our product portfolio
Assess the financial impact of trade or tariff changes
Support scenario analysis around sourcing routes and pricing strategy

Audit, Compliance & Control

Act as the primary Finance contact for inventory during audits
Ensure inventory accounting policies comply with IFRS / FRS 102
Strengthen internal controls around inventory processes
Contribute to automation and reporting improvements as we scale

Cross-Functional Partnership

Develop a deep understanding of the end-to-end inventory transaction flow
Work closely with Supply Chain and Logistics to ensure accurate cost capture
Support budgeting and forecasting with reliable inventory data
Provide cost and margin insight supporting commercial decision‑making

Occasional travel to manufacturing or warehousing sites may be required.
What You Bring
You bring technical strength - and genuine curiosity about how businesses operate.
You are:

ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified, part-qualified, or QBE with strong hands‑on cost or inventory experience
Experienced in inventory accounting, cost accounting or management accounting within stock‑heavy environments
Comfortable with standard costing, variance analysis and inventory valuation principles
Strong in Excel and comfortable working with large datasets

Highly valuable experience includes:

Pharma, MedTech, FMCG or regulated manufacturing environments
Exposure to customs tariffs, import duties or cross‑border trade costs
Multi-entity or high‑SKU inventory environments

But more important than background is how you think.
You are structured, curious, detail-oriented and able to explain complex cost movements clearly to non-finance colleagues.
What Success Looks Like
Within 18–36 months you will have:

Strengthened the integrity of inventory accounting across entities
Reduced unexplained variances and late adjustments
Built a robust and scalable standard costing framework
Increased visibility around landed cost and tariff impact
Become the go-to cost and inventory expert within Finance

Why Join Life Scientific?
Because this is not a static accounting role.
It’s a role at the financial heart of a growing international product business.
You’ll have:

real ownership of inventory accounting across jurisdictions
high visibility within Finance and cross‑functional teams
direct influence on margin, pricing and operational decisions
the opportunity to help shape how cost and inventory are managed as we grow

And you’ll do it in a business that is expanding quickly, thinking differently about innovation in crop protection, and building a strong international team along the way.
