Freelance Prompt Engineer
Remote (occasional Dublin office visits) | 3-month contract (extension likely)
Are you fascinated by the intersection of language, technology and creativity? Our client, a global strategic communications agency, is looking for a talented Prompt Engineer to join their innovative team supporting pharmaceutical clients including top 50 companies.
What you'll do
You'll be the bridge between cutting-edge AI technology and practical business applications, translating business requirements into technical solutions from start to finish. Think solutions architect mindset, but staying hands-on with the tools.
* Design and orchestrate advanced prompt engineering solutions beyond simple chat interfaces
* Write Python code to automate workflows and generate reliable batch outputs (e.g., generating 1,000+ Q&A pairs for LLM audits)
* Work with Git for version control and collaborate via GitHub in a corporate environment
* Build high-fidelity prototypes that work in local sandboxes, ready for client testing and deployment
* Create internal web interfaces for content generation on client infrastructure (e.g., SharePoint deployments)
* Develop prompt libraries and establish best practices across the agency
* Work with command-line tools and APIs to build interconnected prompt systems
You'll support live projects for pharmaceutical clients, including conducting LLM audits (comparing custom RAG versions with public models) and building tools that generate visibility scores for client brands.
What you'll bring
* 2-5 years of relevant experience in an enterprise environment (1+ years working on prompt engineering for business), ideally including regulated sectors (pharmaceuticals, healthcare)
* Solid Python skills with experience moving beyond hobby coding to professional applications
* Proficiency with Git/GitHub workflows, including pull requests in corporate settings
* Understanding of corporate security and regulatory compliance requirements
* Ability to independently understand business requirements and sketch out system architectures
* Hands-on experience with AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or similar platforms, particularly using APIs
* Strong grasp of how large language models work and how to optimise outputs at scale
* Excellent communication skills with attention to detail
* Comfortable working independently whilst collaborating with distributed teams
Nice to have: Experience with RAG systems, CSV data handling, background as a technical business analyst or data analyst who transitioned to product ownership
What's in it for you
This is a 3-month contract with strong potential for extension or permanent conversion. You'll work remotely with flexibility, occasionally visiting the Dublin office for collaboration.
You'll join an agency at the forefront of AI adoption in pharmaceutical communications, working on cutting-edge projects that matter. The central technology team is overwhelmed, which means you'll have real autonomy to build solutions and see immediate impact across diverse projects.
Who this role isn't for
If you're primarily a content writer who's experimented with ChatGPT, this isn't the right fit. Similarly, if you're an experienced senior developer, you might find the technical requirements too light. We're also not looking for hobbyists without corporate experience or understanding of regulated environments.
This role requires someone who can confidently move from understanding business requirements through to designing and implementing technical prompt engineering solutions end-to-end—someone who can think like a solutions architect whilst remaining hands-on with Python, Git, and AI tools.
