Overview
UPMC Aut Even Hospital are recruiting a Senior Physiotherapist on a 2-year fixed term contract.
The role involves providing high-quality physiotherapy assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services to orthopaedic patients both in-patient and out-patient.
The post holder will lead and deliver out-patient orthopaedic and general musculo-skeletal physiotherapy services while also providing general physiotherapy care for orthopaedic in-patients.
This role combines clinical expertise with service development and leadership responsibilities for out-patient services (post-op orthopaedic and general musculo-skeletal).
The post holder will lead physiotherapy care to musculoskeletal–orthopaedic patients in accordance with ISCP and WCPT (European Region) core standards, guidelines and best physiotherapy practice.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Provide expert assessment and treatment for orthopaedic patients.
Develop and implement evidence-based protocols for post-operative orthopaedic surgeries.
Lead and develop the physiotherapy out-patient service, ensuring high standards of clinical care.
Mentor and supervise junior staff in out-patient settings.
Contribute to strategic planning for orthopaedic services within the hospital.
Deliver physiotherapy services to orthopaedic, medical and surgical patients as required.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and discharge planning.
Provide patient education and staff training on musculoskeletal/orthopaedic topics both in the hospital and in the community.
Engage in clinical audits and research to advance service quality.
Link with colleagues in other hospitals to align services.
Maintain CORU registration and adhere to hospital policies and clinical governance standards.
Ensure patient partnership and respect for the individual, with a patient-central approach that considers older age and comorbidity.
Obtain informed consent with information appropriate to the patient's age, cognitive and emotional needs.
Maintain confidentiality and share information within the agreed limits.
Collate information from the patient, carers and other health professionals and ensure collaborative communication at every stage of the patient journey.
Provide effective physiotherapy interventions based on best available evidence, using appropriate assessment tools and outcome measures.
Develop and evaluate treatment plans in partnership with patients, adapting as required.
Ensure evidence of discharge or transfer of care is documented and communicated appropriately.
Affirm patient and practitioner safety through risk management, infection control and safe equipment use.
Take responsibility for own learning and development through continual self-assessment.
Keep informed of changes to the hospital's strategic plan and reflect these in local practice.
Facilitate continuous quality improvement within the orthopaedic physiotherapy service.
Assist staff in orientation, up-skilling, and participation in clinical practice at ward level.
Attend training programmes, conferences and meetings, reporting back to staff/manager on best practice changes.
Collaborate with the Physiotherapy Manager and other hospital managers on accreditation processes.
Meet mandatory training needs through UPMC Engagement and Competency reviews.
Familiarise with Fire Regulations of the hospital.
Evaluate current research, make recommendations for implementation, and undertake clinical audits and literature reviews.
Participate in projects/audits with other health professionals to improve multidisciplinary patient care.
Assist in writing and reviewing policies, procedures and guidelines under the direction of the chapter lead or department manager.
Actively participate in quality and safety programmes and performance indicator development.
Follow uniform policy and general working arrangements, including occasional work in other hospital areas.
Respect the Mission Statement of the Hospital.
Ensure personal safety, health and welfare, and cooperate with UPMC for safety and incident reporting.
Attend annual education sessions on Fire, Health & Safety.
Maintain information governance, keeping records confidential and secure.
Engage with the Engagement and Competency Process, including annual core mandatory training such as Fire Safety, Infection Control, Radiation Safety, Manual Handling, Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Medication Management, Musculoskeletal CPD, Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Updates and ISCP guidance.
Qualifications & Experience
BSc Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent.
Minimum of four years clinical experience with a proven track record across MSK, orthopaedic, neurology and respiratory patients.
Advanced assessment and treatment of orthopaedic and musculo-skeletal issues.
Leadership in orthopaedic out-patient service development and staff mentoring.
Deliver physiotherapy care for inpatient and outpatient orthopaedic cases.
Development of evidence-based protocols for orthopaedic rehabilitation.
Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings and patient education.
Delivery of community education on orthopaedic and musculo-skeletal conditions.
Engagement in clinical audits and research for orthopaedics.
Adherence to CORU standards and hospital governance requirements.
Demonstrate effective communication, interpersonal skills and flexibility.
Basic PC/IT skills.
Excellent time-management and written/ verbal communication skills.
Desirable: Post-registration MSc; membership of ISCP; membership of a relevant ISCP special interest group.
