Title of Post Coastal Walk Manager Job Description This job description details the day to day established activities of the Coastal Walk Manager at the Cliffs of Moher Experience. Contract Type Fixed Term Contract (3 years) Reporting to Project Manager West Hours of work 40 hours per week Main Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities Management, co-ordination and full implementation of the recommendations of the Cliffs of Moher Coastal Walk Management Plan, 2025 including development of an operational plan including, maintenance, health and safety, coastal walk monitoring, visitor management, visitor safety, signage, systems, communications and stakeholder engagement. The post holder will work with Clare Tourism Development Team West and Clare County Council to implement the Cliffs of Moher Coastal Walk Management Plan. Conduct the project and financial administration, record keeping, reporting, and filling of all relevant documents etc. for all expenditure related to the Coastal Walk. Responsible for coordination, organisation and inspection of the trail maintenance with relevant management and or committees. Development and Record keeping and reporting on financial matters, visitor numbers, health and safety, conservation, unauthorised activity. The Cliffs of Moher Coastal Walk Manager will liaise with landowners on a range of matters. Report to assist and support Trail Management Committee/Board. The Cliffs of Moher Coastal Walk Manager must have a good understanding of financial matters and be capable of assisting finance/administration staff in the payment processes associated with the role. Provide support to the Clare County Council and relevant teams and departments in relation to the development of other projects/initiatives associated with recreation/walking by communities and or private/commercial promoters. Preparation of funding applications relating to improvements of the Coastal Walk. Help protect the natural and heritage environment of the trails and their locality through good environmental/heritage practices and Leave No Trace principles against harm/damage. Liaise regularly with landowners, farmers, representative groups and communities/community groups to ensure that goodwill is maintained, and all concerns/issues are addressed. Liaise and organise studies with trail users/visitors to gather feedback/comments and address concerns where they arise. The Cliffs of Moher Coastal Walk Manager will work closely with various stakeholders such as landowners, Filte Ireland, National Parks and Wildlife Service, Clare County Council and their representatives, Irish Farmers Association, Sport Ireland (National Trails Office) Emergency Services, the Department of Rural and Community Development and the local community. Clare Tourism Development Operates a number of tourism locations and the post holder may be required to work or be assigned to other locations as required. Requirements/Essential Skills and Attributes The successful candidate will effectively demonstrate that they have: Experience in management, maintenance and upkeep of outdoor facilities. Experience and knowledge of project and financial administration, recording and reporting on expenditure, purchasing etc. and maintaining records/accounts etc. Ability to work effectively with a number of stakeholder organisations. Experience of trail monitoring and maintenance or similar relevant experience. An excellent understanding of the needs of farmer and landowners (desirable but not essential to have at least 12 months experience of engaging and working with farmers). Possess a thorough understanding of the Walks Scheme. Ability to work on his/her own initiative and as part of a small team and also to work in close association with key agencies and individuals associated with trail development and tourism within a county. Willingness to undertake training in areas relevant to the post. Knowledge and interest in natural heritage, environment and sustainability. Some experience knowledge in tourism marketing and product promotion. Sufficient and adequate IT and computer skills to carry out the role and the various elements of the work. Ability to work effectively with a network of individuals and organisations. Required Qualifications The candidate must have a relevant qualification desirable but not essential in Construction, Rural/Community Development/Outdoor Recreation. Ideally the candidate will have relevant experience in dealing with the farming community. Good interpersonal and communication skills and a knowledge of farming and rural issues/concerns. Must hold a current full driving licence and have access to his/her own transport. Additional Information Applicants should have a full, clean driving licence. The duties will primarily be performed onsite at the Cliffs of Moher Experience, the Cliffs of Moher Offices, Ennistymon, Co Clare, or any other place of business as designated by management, during operating hours of the centre. Occasional work off site may be required. The post will be operational on seven days a week basis according to a monthly published roster in advance with extended hours at certain times according to seasonal business requirements.
