We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented and accountable Inventory Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will oversee and continuously improve our inventory processes, ensuring operational efficiency, stock integrity, compliance with safety and hygiene standards, and accurate, actionable reporting. Working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners, you will play a key role in maintaining inventory integrity, reducing losses, and supporting operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
· Inventory Control:
o Manage and oversee cyclical counts and full stocktakes, ensuring accurate implementation, timely system reporting, and reconciliation.
o Detect and investigate discrepancies between system records and physical stock; when variances occur, conduct formal root-cause investigations — determining whether shrinkage stems from damage, theft, mis-picking, data error, process failure or other causes. Use findings to implement corrective and preventive measures. When any repairs are carried out within the warehouse, ensure the quality of those repairs is checked and verified before the items are returned to stock. Oversee and optimise the returns flow, ensuring all returned items are correctly categorised, processed promptly and accurately recorded in the system to preserve stock integrity.
o Maintain a documented register of incidents, accidents, damages, losses and near-misses affecting either stock integrity or staff safety; ensure each event is recorded accurately, investigated appropriately, and that corrective and preventive actions are proposed, implemented and followed up to prevent reoccurrence.
o Develop and implement robust loss prevention, damage-control and repair verification protocols, including return-flow management, quality checks, and proper record-keeping for all stock movements.
· Warehouse Organisation & Optimisation:
o Plan, lead and manage projects related to warehouse layout optimisation — including rack and floor plan design, stock location reassignments, zone picking, and space utilisation improvements.
o Ensure stock is stored logically (e.g. high-turnover SKUs near packing stations, efficient zone-based picking) to improve picking efficiency and reduce errors.
· Data Management, Reporting & Analytics:
o Generate weekly, monthly and ad-hoc KPI reports (e.g. on shrinkage, discrepancies, stock turn, accuracy rates, losses, near-misses, safety incidents, repair rates) to inform management decision-making.
o Utilise data analytics to identify patterns/trends (e.g. repeated issues by SKU, location or shift), and drive continuous improvement and corrective actions.
o Develop and monitor team performance metrics, including cycle-count accuracy, error rates, damage/loss incidents, repair turn-around times, safety compliance, and Goods-In and putaway efficiency, ensuring clear visibility of operational performance and areas requiring improvement.
· Leadership, Mentoring & Team Collaboration
o Act as a leader and mentor for warehouse and inventory staff — coaching on best practices, proper handling of stock, safety protocols, correct use of systems, and continuous improvement behaviours.
o Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement — encouraging team ownership of stock integrity and safety standards.
o Communicate effectively across the organisation, including the Warehouse Manager, Continuous Improvement Manager, Purchasing Team, Sales Team, Transport Team, and any other operational or support teams involved in the end-to-end stock flow.
o Identify skills gaps within the team and develop targeted training and cross-training plans to strengthen capability, improve flexibility, and ensure operational coverage across all key warehouse functions.
o Create and maintain structured reports on staff training, cross-training progress, and upskilling development, ensuring ongoing visibility of team competency levels and future training needs.
· Compliance, Safety & Hygiene:
o Ensure full compliance with the company's safety policies, operational standards and warehousing procedures, including thorough risk assessments, hazard identification, regular audits/inspections and accurate maintenance of safety records.
o Maintain high standards of warehouse hygiene, cleanliness and a safe working environment — ensuring correct storage practices, proper manual handling, vehicle and pedestrian segregation, secure racking systems and safe loading/unloading procedures at all times.
o Ensure that stock locations, pick faces and storage layouts are designed and maintained in compliance with safety requirements — including clear walkways, unobstructed fire exits, proper aisle widths and safe access for staff, equipment and emergency routes.
o Support and lead periodic safety audits, workplace inspections and ongoing reviews of safety procedures to identify risks, implement corrective actions and prevent accidents, damage or operational disruption.
· Customer Focus
o Liaise with customers to resolve inventory-related queries, ensuring timely, accurate responses and a professional level of service that builds confidence and strengthens long-term relationships.
o Proactively identify recurring customer issues or stock-related trends and work with internal teams to implement solutions that improve service quality and reduce repeat queries.
o Collaborate with the Purchasing Team to optimise stock levels and minimise shortages or excess, ensuring inventory availability aligns with customer demand and service expectations.
o Work closely with Sales and Transport teams to ensure accurate order fulfilment, reduce errors, improve delivery performance and maintain clear communication on stock status, delivery lead times and any potential service impacts.
· Stock Management & Customer / Internal Team Liaison
o Oversee the receipt, storage, putaway, despatch and return-flow of stock — ensuring all movements are accurately recorded, traceable and completed in line with operational standards.
o Conduct regular stock inspections across all storage locations to identify damages, quality issues or potential risks; provide clear reports with corrective and preventive action recommendations.
o Collaborate closely with the Purchasing Team to optimise stock levels, reduce excess, prevent shortages and align inventory strategy with demand forecasts and customer requirements.
o Handle customer or supplier enquiries relating to inventory, returns, damages or stock discrepancies — ensuring prompt, accurate and professional resolution with clear communication.
o Coordinate with Sales and Transport teams to support accurate order fulfilment, reduce fulfilment delays and ensure stock availability aligns with sales commitments and delivery schedules.
o Manage and coordinate stock transfers between the company's multiple warehouse sites, ensuring accuracy, proper documentation, timely movement of goods and full traceability across all locations.
Skills and Qualifications
· Experience:
o Previous experience in inventory management, ideally in a high-volume warehouse/stock-management or distribution environment.
o Experience in conducting cycle counts, stocktakes, shrinkage investigations, reconciliation and loss prevention is strongly preferred.
· Technical & Analytical Skills:
o Proficiency in warehouse and inventory management systems (WMS), tracking technologies and inventory reporting tools, with the ability to maintain data accuracy and ensure system integrity.
o Strong analytical ability to interpret data, identify trends, root causes and make data-driven decisions that improve stock accuracy and operational performance.
o Competence in defining, monitoring and reporting KPIs, with the ability to translate insights into clear improvement actions and support continuous optimisation of processes.
o Ability to work with large data sets, perform reconciliations and validate information across multiple sources to ensure reliable reporting and decision-making.
· Leadership & Communication:
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to collaborate across departments (warehouse, procurement, continuous improvement, customer service).
o Demonstrated leadership, team-mentoring, and coaching skills; ability to foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and safety awareness.
· Attention to Detail & Organizational Skills:
o Highly meticulous and accurate approach to stock control, reconciliation, audits, and reporting.
o Ability to manage multiple priorities, investigate issues methodically, meet deadlines, and follow-up until resolution.
· Proactive, Responsible & Safety-Mindset:
o Proactive in anticipating issues (stock discrepancies, safety hazards, process inefficiencies), and taking preventive action.
o Commitment to health, safety, and hygiene standards.
