Title and Summary
Overview:
Architecture & Technology (A&T) is a team of specialists and senior engineers who collaborate across Mastercard's programs and teams. We focus on reviewing, teaching, establishing policies, and assisting teams in solving complex problems. Our expertise includes security, design for operability and customer experience, privacy, and regulatory compliance. We maintain open contribution documents on engineering principles, development lifecycle, cloud policies, and more. Additionally, we develop and curate code libraries to accelerate engineering efforts and reduce repetitive work.
The Role:
As an A&T Sr Principal Software Engineer, you will engage with Mastercard engineering teams and contribute to A&T deliverables such as patterns, frameworks, proof-of-concepts, standards updates, and shared libraries. You may lead projects, provide technical guidance, mentor engineers, review code, and participate in organizational initiatives. Your work spans the entire technology stack and includes activities like leading technical due diligence, modernization efforts, and detailed platform service work.
Your responsibilities include:
1. Leading enterprise-wide initiatives and resolving complex problems.
2. Architecting new services and products in collaboration with business teams.
3. Driving improvements in software craftsmanship and engineering standards.
4. Designing architecture, including service interactions and policies.
5. Enhancing customer experience for services and applications.
6. Optimizing cost and performance strategies.
7. Balancing trade-offs with informed judgment.
8. Taking on cross-functional assignments and speaking engagements.
9. Collaborating across teams for synergy and reuse.
10. Recommending promotions based on achievements.
11. Conducting technical interviews and raising team standards.
12. Mentoring engineers and leads to improve productivity and compliance.
13. Engaging with external communities for knowledge sharing.
14. Leading architecture meetings and enterprise challenge resolutions.
15. Mentoring Principal Engineers and facilitating community discussions.
Skills and Experiences
Ideal candidates will have:
* Experience leading large, global projects from architecture to operation.
* Thought leadership and influence across functions.
* Proven design and development skills in multiple languages and security standards.
* Knowledge of operating systems internals.
* Ability to develop and promote reference architectures and engineering principles.
* Expertise in API standards, full-stack development, and service ownership.
* Experience in software planning, estimation, and trade-off discussions.
* Automation, DevOps, and performance engineering skills.
* Cost analysis and cloud architecture experience.
* Ability to communicate complex architectures to stakeholders.
