Orange Recruitment are looking for an experienced Commercial Lead to take on a senior leadership role within our clients organisation. This is a key appointment, with responsibility for shaping and managing their commercial function across all active and upcoming projects. You'll be working at both strategic and operational levels, overseeing everything from cost planning and contractual compliance to team development and commercial reporting. This role offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact across their business, guiding commercial processes from pre-contract through to final account, while ensuring our projects remain profitable, compliant, and delivered to the highest standards. Responsibilities: Design and implement consistent commercial processes and cost controls across the project portfolio Establish reporting structures that support clear decision-making at project and board level Lead the setup and mobilisation of commercial teams on new projects, including recruitment and onboarding Develop frameworks for procurement, risk monitoring, change control, and claims management Carry out thorough commercial reviews during the pre-contract phase, identifying risks, deliverables, and obligations Support bid and estimating teams to ensure tenders are commercially sound and reflect real delivery expectations Work closely with project managers and site leads to track costs, assess variations, and maintain margin integrity Lead negotiations with subcontractors and suppliers, overseeing procurement strategy and onboarding Provide guidance on contentious issues, including claims, disputes, and potential litigation matters Take full ownership of group-level job costing, forecasting, and project financial performance Deliver monthly commercial performance updates to the executive team, flagging key risks and opportunities Collaborate with finance, operations, and estimating departments to align commercial objectives with broader business goals Mentor and support commercial staff across regions, ensuring consistent standards and professional development Requirements: A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related discipline At least 10 years of commercial experience, ideally within a main contracting environment managing large-scale M&E or multi-disciplinary projects (up to €20m in value) Proven ability to establish commercial teams, systems, and structures from the ground up Strong knowledge of standard forms of contract (NEC, FIDIC, JCT, etc.) and experience managing claims, disputes, and risk
