About Cork University Maternity Hospital
Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH) is a 150‑bed tertiary referral centre for maternity, neonatology and gynaecology located on the campus of Cork University Hospital. It is part of the South Women’s and Infants Network and serves approximately 7,000 births per annum.
Position Summary
The Registered Advanced Nurse/Midwife Practitioner in Ambulatory Gynaecology (cAN/MP) will develop advanced clinical and leadership competencies to provide evidence‑based, nurse‑led care. The role supports advanced, evidence‑based care for women attending the Cervical One‑Stop Assessment Clinic (COSAC) and other urgent gynaecological presentations.
Responsibilities
Provide advanced assessment, diagnosis and treatment for women attending COSAC, including evaluation of abnormal cervical findings and post‑coital bleeding.
Deliver rapid‑access assessment for urgent gynaecological concerns such as peri‑menopausal bleeding, abnormal uterine bleeding and pelvic pain.
Perform and interpret gynaecology ultrasound assessments (transvaginal and transabdominal).
Develop and manage care episodes (assess, diagnose, plan, treat and discharge) according to agreed protocols and scopes of practice.
Document clinical outcomes and contributing to nursing research and evidence‑based practice at local, regional and national levels.
Provide clinical leadership and convey professional scholarship to advance nursing practice and health policy.
Qualifications & Experience
The role requires a strong foundation in nursing and midwifery, with a commitment to academic preparation and development towards Registration as a Registered Advanced Nurse/Midwife Practitioner (RANP) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland. Candidates should be capable of advanced clinical decision‑making and demonstrate critical thinking, analytical, and leadership skills.
