This position supports the delivery of high-quality, engaging journalism across digital and print, ensuring editorial excellence, operational efficiency, and audience growth.Key ResponsibilitiesNews Desk Operations: Support the News Editor in managing day-to-day editorial output, including story selection, assignment coordination, and deadline management.Content Oversight: Edit and review news articles for clarity, accuracy, tone, and legal compliance. Ensure all content meets professional and ethical standards.Digital & Print Integration : Work across both platforms, contributing to the transition from Desk to CUE and supporting multi-format publishing workflows .Team Collaboration: Liaise with reporters, production journalists, audience editors, and podcast producers to ensure cohesive editorial output.Forward Planning: Assist in developing long-term editorial strategies, including premium content planning and signature journalism initiatives.Audience Engagement: Collaborate with the Audience Team to optimise story presentation and distribution across social media, newsletters, and homepage features.Editorial Meetings: Participate in weekly steerco sessions and content workshops to align editorial priorities with business goals.Skills & ExperienceProven experience in a newsroom or editorial environment, ideally within crime or tabloid journalism.Strong editorial judgement and attention to detail.Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.Familiarity with digital publishing tools (e.g., Atex, CUE).Ability to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines.Understanding of media law, defamation, and journalistic ethics.Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends as required.Desirable AttributesExperience in crime reporting or investigative journalism.Knowledge of audience analytics and SEO best practices.Ability to mentor junior reporters and contribute to talent development.Interest in podcasting and multimedia storytelling.
