Hometree is a nature restoration charity based in the west of Ireland. We work to establish and restore resilient habitats, with a special focus on native temperate rainforest. Our work brings together community, culture, science and natural systems to address biodiversity loss and climate change.
We are looking for a Head of Communications to shape, lead and deliver Hometree's voice across all channels. This is a strategic and hands-on role at the heart of our mission, ensuring our work is seen, understood and supported.
Role Overview:
As Head of Communications, you'll be responsible for building and managing Hometree's communications strategy. You'll oversee storytelling, media relations, digital channels and campaigns, working closely with the CEO, fundraising, and community teams to engage audiences, inspire supporters and protect Hometree's reputation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and deliver Hometree's communications strategy, aligned with organisational goals.
* Lead on media relations: build journalist relationships, draft press releases, pitch stories, and respond to media queries.
* Manage Hometree's brand, messaging and narrative across all platforms.
* Oversee digital communications, including website, newsletters, and social media channels.
* Produce clear, compelling content – from campaign messaging and reports to donor communications and press materials.
* Support fundraising and partnerships with strong comms outputs.Deliver Successful national and international campaigns driving online donations and onboarding new donors
* Work with programme teams to translate complex ecological and community work into accessible stories.
* Manage communications budget and external suppliers (designers, filmmakers, agencies).
* Monitor and evaluate impact of communications activity, reporting regularly to the CEO and Board.
Essential Requirements:
* Proven experience in a senior communications role (ideally in non-profit, environment, or advocacy).
* Strong strategic comms skills with ability to translate big picture into delivery.
* Excellent writing and editing – able to tell powerful, authentic stories.
* Track record in media relations and securing impactful coverage.
* Digital communications experience (social media management, email marketing, website content).
* Understanding of environmental and climate issues.
* Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines and stakeholders.
* Confident working both strategically and hands-on.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience in brand management and creative campaign development.
* Knowledge of fundraising and supporter engagement comms.
* Familiarity with Irish and international media landscape.
What We Offer
* Salary: €40,000–€55,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
