Job Title: Basic Grade Radiographer in Computed Tomography (CT)

Reports to: Radiography Services Manager 3 or Deputy

Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) is a model 4, voluntary, academic teaching hospital partnered with Trinity College and situated in south west Dublin. With a staff of over 4,000 people from 63 different countries, it provides both acute and tertiary care to an increasing population of circa 800,000 people and is a provider of local, regional and national specialties. It is also a National Urology Centre, the second largest provider of dialysis services in the country, Pelvic and Acetabulum National Centre and a designated Trauma Unit.

The Hospital is part of the newly established HSE Dublin & Midlands Region, which serves a population of over 1.2 million across seven counties, and operates under the governance of an independent Board of Directors who give their time on a voluntary basis. Purpose of the role:

With TUH being designated as a trauma unit, the CT service has been expanded to include a CT scanner for the Acute Floor within the ED. The basic grade radiographer in CT will work in conjunction with the Clinical Specialist Radiographers in CT as part of a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to delivering a high-quality efficient service for TUH patients. The Basic Grade Radiographer will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the CT department working as part of a large multidisciplinary team.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

* Work effectively as part of a team dedicated to delivering a high-quality efficient CT service and must demonstrate a professional caring and responsible approach to duties carried out
* Participate in staff rotation within the CT department and radiographic duties throughout the TUH Campus.
* Be committed to assuring high standards and strive for a user-centered service
* Adhere to professional guidelines as determined by the Irish Institute of Radiographers and Radiation Therapists
* Monitor and adhere to relevant legislation, regulations, and standards relevant to the use of ionising radiation
* Comply with local radiation safety rules
* Ensure that appropriate radiation protection is used and that the radiation dose is kept to a minimum consistent with the ALARA principle
* Participate in mandatory training programmes
* Demonstrate good professional and technical standards
* Observe the code of practice for the protection of persons against ionising radiation arising from medical and dental use and comply with local radiation safety rules
* Apply principles of Justification and Optimisation to every examination undertaken
* Maintain a high standard of patient and equipment care
* Be involved in the Equipment Quality Assurance Programme
* To report any equipment defects or problems to the Clinical Specialist Radiographers in the CT or RSM in their absence.
* Demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
* Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate with colleagues, families, carers etc.
* Ensure good communications within the department by appropriate means involving attendance at regular staff meetings.
* Maintain confidentiality of information about patients, staff, and other Hospital business
* Be involved in undergraduate Radiography Training in association with Clinical Specialist Radiographers
* Take practical advice and training from more senior members of staff where required
* To keep up-to-date with current techniques and developments in CT and to take part in in-service training as required
* To actively participate in Continued Professional Development
* To take responsibility for the general cleanliness, tidiness, and safety of the Department, with specific responsibility for their own work area.
* To familiarize themselves with current infection control procedures
* Participate in audit programmes and in the implementation of findings
* Participate in research projects involving the Radiology department
* You will be required to work CT on-call roster arrangements only as advised to you by your line manager. This includes additional hours, overtime, weekends, public holidays, night shift arrangements at the discretion of management.
* Any other duties assigned by the Radiology Management team


Qualifications & Experience required

Must have:

* Diploma of the College of Radiographer
* A BSc in Radiography at level 8 (NQF)
* A BSc in Diagnostic Radiography
* A qualification at least equivalent to the above

And

* Be state registered with CORU

Desirable

* Previous experience in working in CT
* Post graduate qualification in CT
* A willingness to undertake post graduate education programme in CT


Reward & Recognition

* Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales, grade code 3093.
* The appointment is Full time, permanent and pensionable.
* The annual leave entitlement is 27 working days per year. The leave year runs from 1st April to the 31st of March each year.
* Normal working hours are 35 worked over 5 days. Your contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8 am to 8 pm over 7 days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement.
