The Role: Operations Director
This Operations Director role is a Nationwide role and reports directly to the Managing Director.
This is a highly operational leadership position within a fast‑moving engineering and technical services environment. The successful Operations Director will lead service operations, maintenance delivery, operational customer management and field‑based technical teams while helping to professionalise and strengthen the next phase of business growth.
This is not a corporate desk‑based COO role and it is not purely a technical HVAC leadership position.
The role requires an operationally strong leader with energy, urgency, accountability and customer management capability who is comfortable being visible throughout the business, engaging directly with operational teams, supporting customers and driving standards in real time.
The successful candidate will oversee service operations, PPM delivery, reactive maintenance, technical field operations, project oversight, KPI governance and operational process improvement across the business.
The Role will involve:
Leading operational performance across service and technical operations
Driving accountability, structure and KPI discipline throughout the business
Managing operational customer relationships and escalation handling
Improving service delivery consistency, workflow management and operational reporting
Supporting recurring revenue growth across service and maintenance operations
Overseeing field‑based operational and technical service teams
Managing operational budgeting, forecasting and commercial performance
Improving engineer utilisation, labour recovery and operational efficiency
Supporting installation and project delivery oversight where required
Building operational rhythm, management structure and performance visibility
Working closely with ownership on operational strategy and business growth
Must Have Requirements
Proven operational leadership experience within technical services, hard services FM, M&E or engineering‑led service businesses
Strong experience managing field‑based operational or service teams
Customer‑facing operational leadership experience is required
Proven experience implementing KPI governance, accountability and operational structure
Hands‑on operational management style with strong leadership presence required
Preferred Experience
Hard services FM or technical services background preferred
Experience within HVAC, refrigeration, M&E services or building services environments beneficial
Trade or technical background advantageous
Experience improving operational systems, service delivery and team accountability beneficial
Exposure to recurring maintenance and service contract environments preferred
Key Responsibilities
Lead operational service delivery across maintenance and technical operations
Develop KPI‑led operational management systems and reporting structures
Improve workflow planning, utilisation and operational efficiency
Drive accountability and performance standards across operational teams
Support scheduling, coordination and engineer management functions
Manage customer engagement, escalation handling and service performance
Oversee operational budgeting, labour planning and forecasting
Improve service profitability, customer retention and operational consistency
Support operational recruitment and development of management teams
Work closely with ownership to shape operational growth strategy
About You
You are likely coming from a hard services FM, technical services, building services or engineering‑led operational environment where you have managed field‑based teams and customer‑facing operations.
You bring strong operational energy, urgency and accountability while remaining commercially aware and highly organised.
You are comfortable leading from the front, engaging directly with operational teams, solving problems in real time and improving standards across fast‑moving service operations.
