Organisational Context




The HSE has created six new health regions. Each region is responsible for providing both hospital and community care for the people in that area. Bringing community health services and hospitals together means we can take a more patient-centred approach to healthcare.

HSE Dublin and North East region which provides health and social care to North Dublin, Louth, Meath, Monaghan and most areas of Cavan. Connolly Hospital is situated within the North Dublin area of the region.

Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown is a model 3* major teaching hospital providing a range of acute services including:

* acute medical in-patient services
* elective surgery
* 24 hour emergency care
* acute psychiatric services
* intensive care
* diagnostic and support services
* outpatient care

Multi-disciplinary teams representative of medical, nursing, allied health professionals, management, administration and general support staff play a pivotal role in the development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of these services.

The hospital is affiliated to the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) for medical education, to Dublin City University (DCU) for nursing education and to University College Dublin (UCD), Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and the Institute of Technology for allied health professional education.

The Pharmacy Department in Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown is a dynamic, forward-looking department which is characterised by a passionate commitment to patient-centred care of the highest possible standard. The department purchases and dispenses medicines for Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown. We aim to ensure the safe, effective and economical use of medicines, and support education, training and practice-based research. The department consists of pharmacists, pharmaceutical technicians, and support staff. Our core values are compassion, innovation, co-operation, professionalism, integrity, and respect.

As part of the clinical pharmacy service to the Emergency Department, Mental Health Services, Critical Care, Haematology, Respiratory, Surgical, and Medicines for the Elderly services, clinical pharmacists monitor prescriptions and provide advice & medicines information to medical and nursing colleagues, to patients and to their carers.

Other aspects of the service include antimicrobial stewardship and surveillance, outpatient dispensing to staff and to patients of the Mental Health Service, formulary management, drug protocol development, and audit.






Essential Criteria




Candidates must have at the latest date of application:

Professional Qualifications, Experience etc.

i) Be a registered Pharmacist with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) or entitled to be so registered

And

ii)Have at least three years satisfactory post-registration hospital experience

And

iii) Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and management ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
