Job Description: Support Worker The Good Shepherd Centre now requires a support worker to support residents and tenants in the Centre and in the community and to assist project workers in the implementation of care plans.
Overview
The Good Shepherd Centre Kilkenny is seeking a Support Worker to assist residents/tenants and to support project workers in implementing care plans. This is a specified purpose contract subject to ongoing funding.
Responsibilities
* Work within the framework of the overall objectives and policies of the Good Shepherd Centre.
* Provide assistance with daily activities such as personal care to service users in their own home, ensuring clients’ dignity and wellbeing are promoted.
* Implement support plans (recovery focused) with clients as directed by the project worker. This may include cleaning, shopping, general housekeeping and other tasks identified.
* Support tenants in maintaining their homes and managing personal care.
* Work as part of a team; remind service users to take their medication; provide relief care for a carer/colleague as required.
* Report concerns to the project worker/team leader and be aware of changing needs of the service user.
* Support service users with life skills such as using household appliances, meal preparation, and cleaning.
* Keep up-to-date records such as daily logs; work to the service model and standards of best practice.
* Attend and participate in individual, team and GSCK training and meetings as required; participate in supervision.
* Work a flexible roster over days, evenings and weekends to meet service objectives.
* Implement existing policies and procedures and contribute to the development of new ones; evaluate daily activities.
* Ensure confidentiality in all matters concerning individuals using our service, including safe storage of reports and records.
* Undertake other duties as reasonably assigned in consultation with the Team Leader.
* Be vigilant to Health, Safety and Welfare risks and raise concerns with the line manager or Health & Safety Representative.
* Promote the safety, health and wellbeing of service users.
Essential Criteria
* Level 5 QQI Healthcare or equivalent relevant qualification
* Minimum 1 year post-qualification experience in a related field
* Full clean driving license and access to a car
* Good verbal and written communication skills to support service users
* Practical skills and willingness to complete tasks required
* Excellent problem-solving skills
* Candidates should demonstrate a caring and responsible attitude, with respect for each service user’s dignity and independence
Desirable
* Experience of lone working in a healthcare setting
* First Aid Training
