Senior Microsoft 365 & Entra ID Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is seeking a Senior Microsoft 365 & Entra ID Engineer to support and evolve a complex enterprise hybrid cloud environment operating at significant scale across multiple Microsoft tenants. This is a Level 3 technical role - the expectation is that you are the person others escalate to, not the person doing the escalating. The successful candidate will take ownership of advanced administration, engineering, and platform optimisation across the full Microsoft 365 stack, enterprise identity, endpoint management, security, and Azure-integrated services. The environment is large, complex, and multi-tenant - candidates who have only operated in single-tenant or small-scale environments will find the step up significant. Beyond day‑to‑day operational support, this role has a clear forward‑looking dimension. The team is actively deploying new technologies, onboarding new tenants, and maturing its security posture. A growth mindset is not a soft requirement - the client has called it out explicitly because they want someone who is curious, keeps pace with the Microsoft ecosystem, and brings ideas as well as executes them.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Administer and optimise the full Microsoft 365 platform in a large‑scale enterprise environment, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, and Teams Enterprise Voice
Engineer and administer Microsoft Entra ID across a multi‑tenant environment, designing and managing Conditional Access Policies and Zero Trust security controls
Manage the device estate using Microsoft Intune, implementing endpoint security policies, compliance controls, and device lifecycle governance
Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts and leverage the Microsoft Graph API to automate administrative tasks, reporting, and platform management activities
Diagnose and resolve complex issues across identity, collaboration, endpoint, and security workstreams with rigour and documentation standards
Deploy new technologies and embed best practice across the platform, contributing to maturation of M365 and Entra environment
Plan and execute tenant onboarding workstreams, ensuring secure, efficient integration in line with organisational standards
Work closely with the Security Operations team to deploy monitoring tooling and maintain visibility across the platform
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Senior Level 3 engineering experience across large-scale Microsoft 365 environments
Deep, hands‑on expertise with Microsoft Entra ID and enterprise identity and access management
Proven experience managing and supporting multi‑tenant Microsoft cloud environments
Demonstrated track record delivering tenant migrations and onboarding programmes
Strong PowerShell scripting and automation capability - including Microsoft Graph API
Solid understanding of hybrid identity and the integration of cloud services with on‑premises infrastructure
Full suite Microsoft 365 administration expertise including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Intune endpoint management experience with security‑conscious approach to policy implementation
Security‑first mindset and structured approach to platform engineering
Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert or equivalent depth of experience
Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate or equivalent depth of experience
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
On‑premises Microsoft technologies and hybrid cloud integration experience
Azure infrastructure engineering and hybrid cloud deployment experience
Enterprise Voice and telephony integration beyond Teams - SBC configuration, direct routing
Experience working in regulated or highly governed environments
Familiarity with Microsoft Sentinel, Defender for Endpoint, or broader Microsoft Security stack
Exposure to Microsoft Purview or information protection frameworks
Experience working within ITIL‑aligned change management processes
Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
Microsoft 365 Certified: Teams Administrator Associate
CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate
Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals (minimum baseline - higher‑level security certifications preferred)
