Purpose of the RoleTo help ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all participants, particularly children, young people, and vulnerable adults, by promoting good safeguarding practice and acting as a point of contact for concerns.Key ResponsibilitiesAct as a named safeguarding contact for participants, parents, coaches, and volunteersListen to, record, and report safeguarding concerns promptly and confidentiallySupport the organisation in following safeguarding policies and proceduresPromote awareness of safeguarding, appropriate behaviour, and boundariesEncourage completion of safeguarding training and safer recruitment checksSeek advice and support when needed and not deal with serious concerns aloneSkills & QualitiesApproachable, trustworthy, and supportiveGood listening and communication skillsAble to handle sensitive information appropriatelyCommitted to participant welfare and safeguarding valuesTraining & RequirementsWillingness to complete safeguarding trainingDBS check (or equivalent), where requiredOngoing learning and updates as neededLiaise with British Fencing Safeguarding team to ensure policies and practices are up-to-dateTime CommitmentFlexible; typically maximum of a few hours per monthSupportTraining and guidance providedNot expected to be a legal expert or investigatorDefinitely not expected to handle safeguarding problems alone
