A panel may be formed from which subsequent Permanent and Temporary Support Worker appointments within the Loughrea Services may be made over the next 6 months.
The Role
The Support Worker will report to the Social Care Leader/Team Leader and will fulfil a key worker role for individuals, aiming to provide a safe, secure environment where individuals will participate in community and leisure activities, make choices and enjoy a lifestyle that fulfils their potential and expectations with opportunities for new experiences. This position is located in a residential setting working with men who have complex needs and may present with behaviours that challenge.
Responsibilities
* Act as a key worker for individuals, supporting participation in community and leisure activities and enabling personal choice.
* Maintain a safe, secure environment and promote a person-centred approach in line with the Brothers of Charity model.
* Work within a residential setting with individuals who have complex needs and may display challenging behaviours.
* Collaborate with the Social Care Leader/Team Leader, Senior Staff/Service Coordinator/Area Manager as required.
Qualifications
* The successful candidate must have a good general education.
* A recognised qualification in the field of intellectual disability or a FETAC Level 5 course is desirable.
Experience
* Experience of working with individuals with an intellectual disability is desirable.
* Knowledge of day service provision is desirable. Full training will be provided.
Skills
* Flexibility, good communication and team-working skills.
* Enthusiasm for the post and basic IT skills are an advantage.
* Full clean manual Irish Driving Licence (Class B) is essential; may be required to obtain Class D1 (assistance provided).
* Fluency in verbal and written English is essential.
Working Hours
78 hours per fortnight based on a 7-day week duty roster. Working hours are shift-based and may include weekends to meet the needs of the people we support or Personal Outcomes. Flexibility in hours is required.
Leave and Remuneration
* Annual Leave: 22 days per annum.
* Remuneration: Department of Health Care Assistant (Disability Services) pay scale as per the consolidated salary scale dated 01 August 2025 – €34,036 to €46,652 pro rata per annum. Long Service Increment (LSI) €47,454 pro rata per annum after 3 years on the maximum of the scale. Additional payments for weekends, public holidays and night duty when worked.
Tenure and Probation
* Posts are permanent and temporary, full-time and pensionable.
* Probation: nine months from appointment, with possible extension at the Employer’s discretion.
