Veterinary Nurse – Small Animal
Value Vets, Co Cork
Full-time, Permanent
Salary up to €35,000 DOE
A Confident Nursing Role With Real Responsibility
Value Vets in Cork is seeking an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Nurse to join our close-knit team in a permanent, full-time position. This is a role for a confident, capable nurse who enjoys autonomy, takes pride in high clinical standards, and is comfortable being a key clinical presence within a small, busy practice.
If you're looking for a position where your skills are trusted, your judgement matters, and your contribution genuinely makes a difference every day, this could be an excellent next step.
The Practice
Value Vets is a well-established small animal practice with a strong reputation for providing high-quality, compassionate veterinary care that remains accessible and affordable. We believe excellent care shouldn't be out of reach, and our team is deeply committed to treating every pet with kindness, respect and professionalism. The clinic is well equipped, with digital X-ray, ultrasound, kennelling facilities and modern diagnostic tools to support both medical and surgical cases. You'll be working alongside two experienced vets and a dedicated receptionist in a friendly, supportive environment where teamwork and communication are key.
Your Role Day to Day
This is a hands-on nursing role with real clinical scope. You'll be responsible for delivering high standards of nursing care to both medical and surgical patients, monitoring anaesthesia and assisting with surgical procedures, and ensuring patients receive excellent care throughout their stay.
You'll also play an important role in running nurse consultations, including post-operative checks, weight clinics, nail clipping and medication dispensing. Maintaining accurate clinical records, administering treatments in line with practice protocols, and upholding strict hygiene and infection control standards are central to the role.
This position includes confident sole charge nursing, so it's essential that you're comfortable working independently, making sound clinical decisions and managing your workload effectively.
Working Pattern and Rota
The role is full-time, working Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm, with weekend duties shared on a fair rota basis. Typically, this includes one in four Saturdays and one in six Sundays. The rota is designed to be predictable and sustainable, supporting a healthy work–life balance alongside a rewarding clinical role.
Who This Role Will Suit
This position is best suited to an experienced Veterinary Nurse who has previously worked in a busy small animal practice and is confident working independently. You'll be organised, calm under pressure, and comfortable prioritising tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills and a genuine commitment to client care are essential, as is a proactive, reliable approach to your work. Previous experience in sole charge nursing, nurse-led clinics or leadership responsibilities would be an advantage, as would familiarity with practice management systems.
Please note, this role is not suitable for new graduates, as it requires confidence and experience in sole charge nursing.
