Role: Crime & Human Rights Legal Professional (Assistant Principal Level)Client: An Garda SíochánaLocations: Garda Headquarters, Phoenix Park, Dublin 8 and adjacent offices at Ashtown GateSalary: Starting From: €81,475Application: GetGot Application form only - The Criminal Law and Human Rights Specialist is a senior position within An Garda Síochána reporting directly to the Head of Section. This post provides the necessary in-house legal specialism and expertise in criminal law and human rights law to service the specific needs of An Garda Síochána in this area.Duties and Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:Providing specialist advice on criminal law and human rights issues within An Garda Síochána inter alia, providing timely, effective and robust legal advice and assistance to the Executive Director Legal.Advising the Senior Leadership Team on the legal implications of key decisions and policy proposals in relation to criminal and human rights law.Reviewing and in consultation with other stakeholders, advising on legislation, policy and procedures in criminal matters.Liaising as necessary with all relevant stakeholders within the organisation and external stakeholders.Providing expert advices in relation to complex and sensitive criminal law and human rights law matters and drafting comprehensive guidance and instructions for operational Gardaí.Liaising with and maintaining effective and professional working relations with An Garda Síochána staff and external agencies.Performing management functions to include providing leadership, motivation and managing staff performance.Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Head of Crime Legal and Human Rights.The duties assigned to the Legal Professional, Assistant Principal may differ from these if a successful candidate is assigned to another section within the Office of the Executive Director Legal.**Essential Criteria:Candidates must on or before the closing date:**(a) Have at least 3 years' Post Qualification legal experience within a criminal law environment.(b)Be enrolled as a Solicitor in the State or be entitled to be enrolled* and have applied for enrolment.OrBe called to the Bar of Ireland or is a qualified barrister (as defined in section 2(1) of the Legal Services Regulation Act 2015) and is registered with the Roll of Practising Barristers or is entitled to be registered* and has applied for registration.Candidates must also have:Ability to apply criminal legal practice and procedure effectively.The ability to work on their own initiative, to work independently and in a team environment.The ability to take responsibility for meeting defined performance targets with clear accountability for outcomes.Proven experience of analysing a legal issue and advising as appropriate.For further information and to complete an online application form, please visit Staffline GetGot Jobs Ireland or click apply now.CV's will not be accepted for this role.
