Role Overview
Location: Cork office – NETGEAR's European Headquarters
Working Model: Hybrid – 3 days a week onsite
Reporting to: VP Engineering
As Director of Cloud & Engineering Enablement, you will lead the transformation of NETGEAR’s cloud platform into a modern, automation‑first, high‑performance engineering ecosystem serving both Consumer and Enterprise divisions.
You Will Oversee

Cloud Platform Engineering
Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)
Cloud Architecture
Cloud Shared Services (account management, Stripe billing, AWS IoT agents, cloud API infrastructure)

This is a culture‑shaping leadership role. You will move the organization from manual processes and reactive operations toward self‑service infrastructure, engineered reliability, AI‑enabled development, and measurable engineering excellence. The mandate is clear: remove friction, unblock engineers, increase velocity, protect revenue systems, and embed a durable culture of ownership and operational discipline.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Platform & Automation

Build and evolve a unified cloud platform serving Consumer and Enterprise divisions
Eliminate manual infrastructure and deployment processes
Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred) across environments
Enable engineers to self‑serve infrastructure, deployments, and production monitoring
Standardize CI/CD pipelines and release practices
Reduce dependency bottlenecks and operational friction

Site Reliability Engineering & Operational Excellence

Establish and scale a strong SRE culture across engineering
Define SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets across shared services
Reduce production incidents and improve MTTR
Drive disciplined incident response and permanent root‑cause elimination
Lead observability maturity (Datadog implementation experience a distinct advantage)
Reduce operational toil through automation

High‑Performance Engineering & DORA Metrics

Establish DORA metrics as a core performance discipline
Improve deployment frequency and reduce lead time for changes
Lower change failure rate through automation and test rigor
Increase release confidence across cloud services
Provide transparent engineering performance reporting to leadership

AI‑Enabled Engineering

Champion adoption of AI‑powered development tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Cloud Code, emerging AI assistants)
Define responsible usage guardrails and best practices
Increase productivity through AI‑assisted coding, debugging, and test generation
Measure and demonstrate the impact of AI adoption on velocity and quality

Modern Test Automation & Quality

Drive strong automation across unit, integration, and end‑to‑end testing
Implement shift‑left testing principles
Reduce manual regression processes
Embed production observability into quality validation
Raise engineering discipline around release confidence

Cloud Architecture

Define architectural standards and guardrails
Prevent service sprawl and architectural drift
Ensure scalable, cost‑efficient cloud design
Align cloud architecture with long‑term product and business strategy
Support both enterprise‑grade and high‑scale consumer use cases

Cloud Shared Services

Account management services
Subscription and Stripe billing systems
AWS IoT agents and device connectivity infrastructure
Core cloud API services powering mobile, web, and device ecosystems

Required Qualifications

12+ years of engineering experience with significant cloud leadership responsibility
Proven track record transforming engineering teams into high‑performing organizations
Experience operating and scaling cloud platforms (AWS highly advantageous)
Deep expertise in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred)
Strong SRE and reliability engineering background
Demonstrated experience improving DORA metrics in production environments
Experience implementing and rolling out enterprise observability platforms (e.g., Datadog)
Experience leading AI tooling adoption across engineering teams
Experience operating revenue‑critical systems at scale
Excellent stakeholder management across Product, Engineering, Security, and Finance

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting both Consumer and Enterprise product ecosystems
Experience with AWS IoT infrastructure and large‑scale device connectivity
Experience operating subscription and billing systems (e.g., Stripe)
Understanding of cloud financial governance and cost optimization
Experience building self‑service internal developer platforms
