Job Title: Lead Mechanical Engineer
Role Description
AZOROM has an ongoing contract with ESB and wishes to fill this present position.
Turlough Hill is scheduled to complete its 5 Yearly Maintenance overhaul, which includes machine inspections, dewatering of the upper reservoir and penstock for inspections and required repairs. In addition to the standard 5 Yearly overhaul works there are significant maintenance and upgrade works scheduled for 2027, these works will feature but will not be limited to; Turlough Hill Unit 1 generator rotor pull and runner removal for repair, Turlough Hill Unit 2 generator rotor pull for electrical testing, Transformer refurbishment (including installation of new HV bushings and transformer oil coolers), C&I Upgrades (Unit controllers and common PLC along with various PLC's across the plant) and an extensive balance of plant scope (both electrical and mechanical). ESB are currently looking for a Lead Electrical to mobilise to the Turlough Hil site and respectively manage the key responsibilities which are listed below. The successful candidate will work within an ESB project team, supporting the project manager to delivery this important overhaul, on behalf of ESB.
Key Responsibilities
* Work with the Safety Adviser and other project team members to ensure that all works undertaken during the project are executed in accordance with statutory safety, health and environmental regulations and internal ESB Technical Standards & Guidelines
* Management of Main EPC Mechanical Contract and other Mechanical contracts / work scopes as assigned by the Project Manager
* Liaison with EMP specialist team to successfully deliver overhaul in line with defined protocols and procedures.
* Support the implementation of Inspection & Test Plans for the Mechanical aspects of the unit, in conjunction with the appropriate Competent Person / Asset Management Specialist
* Management of quality in accordance with responsibilities listed in the Project Quality Plan.
* Day to day supervision and point of contact with contractors and their works. Review of key ITP protocol sheets
* Work with and support the station Management and Maintenance Teams during the course of the project
* Undertake regular safety, environment and quality audits during the overhaul
* Reporting on progress against schedule and attendance at various project meetings as deemed appropriate by the Project Manager
* Work with the Project Manager to control costs for assigned contracts
* Management of special tooling requirements with the principle Contractor
* Development of technical specifications for work scopes on Mechanical plant and equipment and involvement in various stages of tendering and procurement process
* Use of plant modification process for all Mechanical plant modifications. Ensure all Mechanical procedures and drawings are updated
* Use of the ESB Contractor Management (CM) process to manage assigned contracts including use of CM tools to track contract progress and holding of Kick-Off, Progress, Close-Out meetings, etc.
* Attendance at Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), workshop visits, if required
* Creation of Mechanical Close-Out Report
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
* Experience of planning major power station overhauls – including logistics, procurement, specifications development and contractor management
* Ability to work and share knowledge and competencies within a team structure
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Flexibility which is important in all aspects of the role
* Strong report writing capability
* Proficient computer skills
Desirable
* Experience in the overhaul of hydro power plant
Qualifications
Essential
* Experience of Power plant mechanical plant, incl, Pumps, Motors and Valves etc
* Well versed with Health, Safety and Environment Standards and procedures
* Minimum experience of 5 years (Post Qualification) in power generation industry
Desirable
* Engineer level 8 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
Base Location
ESB's offices at Turlough Hill Power Station, Co. Wicklow.
The successful candidate must work from the base location on a full-time basis.
