OverviewRoughan & O’Donovan (ROD) is looking to recruit a senior resident engineer for the Waterford City Public Infrastructure Project scheme, Sustainable Transport Bridge and South Plaza Works.Location: Waterford City CentreThe senior engineer on the Waterford City Public Infrastructure Project will be part of the site-based team responsible for the supervision of the construction of the Sustainable Transport Bridge (STB) across the River Suir and the plaza on the southern approach to the bridge. You will report directly to the project resident engineer.The STB is a 210 m long, 8 m wide pedestrian and cycle bridge linking the North Quays site and the city centre. The bridge features a central movable span to facilitate river traffic and a 5,000 m2 public plaza on the bridge approach from the city side.The works will primarily involve:marine works consisting of cofferdams, piling for pier foundations, construction of reinforced concrete pile caps and piersfabrication of steel superstructure for fixed and moveable spansmechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control, and automation (MEICA) of the double-leaf bascule spans attached to the fixed spans and associated control rooms and buildingsconstruction of an approach plaza to the southern bridge approach, consisting of a piled foundation, reinforced concrete slab, quay walls and all associated public realm and finishesDutiessupervision of all marine works for the STB, including cofferdams and reinforced concrete substructuressupervision of all civil and marine works for the South Plazasupervision of the movable spans and associated infrastructure and commissioningQualificationsDegree in engineering or construction management (Level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent)At least 15 years’ postgraduate experience in civil engineering works (preferably marine and bridge works), with a minimum of 10 years’ site-based experience on bridge, marine or civil worksExperience in the role of senior resident engineer (or equivalent) on civil engineering works, including at least one steel bridge (fixed or movable) over a river with a construction value of more than €10 million (exclusive of VAT)Experience in administering the public works forms of contractExperience of civil engineering projects involving construction works over environmentally sensitive watercoursesExperience in the review and monitoring of Environmental Operating Plans for civil engineering projects, including at least one project involving works crossing or directly adjacent to environmentally/ecologically designated sites and sensitive watercoursesExperience in implementing procedures and systems for accurate record keepingKnowledge and awareness of health and safety legislationChartered engineer status (CEng MIEI or equivalent)Good organisational skillsMotivated individual with a strong work ethicExcellent written and oral communication skillsFluency/high level of proficiency in spoken and written EnglishExperience in movable bridges, including supervising and monitoring a team for FAT and SAT acceptance of MEICA components and systems of the movable bridgeExperience with construction of cofferdams and marine piling in significant river coursesExperience of dealing with navigational control procedures and the Commissioner of Irish Lights and/or harbour/port authoritiesAbout Roughan & O’DonovanRoughan and O’Donovan (ROD) is a leading civil, environmental and structural engineering consultancy.
