Overview of role: The Physiotherapist is responsible for providing excellent patient care within the Physiotherapy Department, adhering to best practice procedures, standards, and protocols.
The physiotherapist will collaborate with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals to deliver coordinated treatment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Organize and coordinate the Physiotherapy Department's work to ensure high-quality service provision.Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, in line with hospital policies.Stay informed of hospital strategic changes and align work practices accordingly.Participate in Allied Health Professional Group Meetings as needed.Assist in risk management programs within the physiotherapy department and multidisciplinary teams.Ensure professional development needs are met to provide optimal service.Promote continuous professional development through in-service programs.Ensure effective communication within and between departments.Participate in training, conferences, and committees as required.Foster relationships with other physiotherapy facilities and stay updated on industry developments.Encourage quality improvement initiatives and pursuit of clinical excellence.Coordinate task allocation with team members to optimize skills utilization.Work with the Physiotherapy Manager to understand accreditation and clinical standards.Access and report incidents and complaints via the hospital's quality management system.Clinical Duties: Participate in on-call and weekend physiotherapy services.Collaborate with staff and assist in other areas as needed.Report and document patient observations and changes in clinical status.Contribute to patient safety and quality goals.Engage actively in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences.Organization and Development: Stay updated with advances in physiotherapy and evidence-based practices.Implement new techniques and technologies in line with standards.Participate in manual handling training and hospital-wide quality initiatives.Maintain and expand professional knowledge and skills.Engage in continuing education and research activities.Supervise physiotherapy students as required.Audit and Research: Participate in audits and evaluate their outcomes.Ensure physiotherapy practices are evidence-based.Initiate and collaborate on research projects to improve patient care.Review current research and recommend implementation of new treatments.Quality, Safety & Lean: Participate actively in quality and safety initiatives.Work with management to monitor and improve quality and lean programs.Professional Responsibilities: Follow hospital policies and guidelines.Maintain a safe working environment and respect confidentiality.Uphold the hospital's mission statement.Qualifications & Experience: Membership or eligibility for membership of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists.At least two years of hospital-based clinical experience, preferably with orthopedic expertise.Membership of ISCP with interest groups in respiratory, orthopedic, or gerontology is advantageous.CORU registration or evidence of application.Equal Opportunity and Benefits: UPMC is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
