Overview
Applications are invited for Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering, 1FTE, Permanent, Contract Type B at University of Galway.
The University of Galway is advertising two related positions:
(i) Permanent Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering (Ref. #: );
(ii) specific-purpose Contract in Biomedical Engineering (Ref. #: ).

The University seeks to appoint internationally leading individuals with outstanding research track records in Biomedical Engineering.
Research expertise may fall under a broad range of areas, including medical device design, experimental and computational cell and tissue mechanobiology, biomaterials, computational biomechanics, and digital-twin development for next generation medical innovation.
The successful candidate will develop outstanding research programmes in Biomedical Engineering, collaborate across the University's disciplines and institutes, and build a strong network of international collaborators.
They will also develop strong collaborations with the medical technologies industry, benefitting from Galway's Med-Tech ecosystem and its collaborations between industry and academia.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to the strategic visions of the University of Galway and the College of Science and Engineering.
Responsibilities include research, teaching, student project supervision, and programme administration across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Biomedical Engineering and the School of Engineering.
They will work with colleagues across relevant disciplines and institutes and contribute to the research capacity in Biomedical Engineering (clusters in biomechanics, biomaterials, medical devices, mechanobiology, and related areas, including Electrical and Electronic Engineering).
Researchers will engage with national research centres and networks such as the Institute for Health Discovery and Innovation and CÚRAM Research Ireland Centre for Medical Devices.
The appointee will apply for major funding awards (e.g., Research Ireland, the European Research Council, Horizon Europe) and develop national and international collaborations with academia and industry.
They will disseminate work through high-quality peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and workshops.
Teaching and Supervision
The appointee will contribute to teaching across Biomedical Engineering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, supervise student projects, and participate in administration within the Discipline of Biomedical Engineering, the School of Engineering, and the College of Science and Engineering.
Primary teaching areas may include medical device design, drug delivery, biomaterials, cell and tissue bioengineering, computational biomechanics, and machine learning.
Development and delivery of taught modules and supervision/mentorship of Masters level research projects are essential components.
Qualifications
A primary degree in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related discipline;
A PhD in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related discipline;
Experience in third level teaching, including lecturing, lab supervision and student supervision;
An excellent research track-record with a strong publication record in leading peer-reviewed journals, an established track-record in research funding, and a demonstrated ability to develop an excellent research programme in Biomedical Engineering;
Ability to conduct programme administration and management in a public service university environment;
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, and the ability and commitment to develop collaborative relationships with other academic staff in teaching and research objectives in Biomedical Engineering;
A strong commitment to working with colleagues within existing, established research centres and groups and a willingness to develop and lead new research activity and groups;
Strong commitment to contributing to development and delivery of established and new postgraduate taught programmes and modules;
Strong commitment to working with the medical technologies industry.

Salary
€64,260 to €102,513 p.a. (applicable to new entrants effective from January, ****).
The appointment will be on the Lecturer scale in line with current Government pay policy and the University's Remuneration policy.
