Mission Statement
The mission of the School Health Program in Danbury Public Schools is to protect and improve students' health and educational success, thereby enhancing the overall quality of life for the school community. This is achieved through a comprehensive health program emphasizing prevention, early detection, education, and effective management of health issues.
Responsibilities
1. Serve as a member of the school team as the designated health professional (e.g., Planning and Placement Team, 504 Team, Crisis Team).
2. Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and organized records, logs, surveys, and reports according to Connecticut state requirements and district policies.
3. Consult with parents, students, teachers, support staff, and professionals to interpret health and developmental assessments, and monitor students with special needs to support their inclusion in the school setting.
4. Ensure compliance with Connecticut state mandated physical examinations and immunization requirements.
5. Coordinate administration of prescribed medications and treatments, and train staff in medication administration according to state regulations.
6. Perform vision, hearing, and postural screenings as per regulations, and follow up on deviations from normal findings.
7. Develop individual healthcare plans (IHCP) for students with special needs, integrating them into IEP and 504 plans when appropriate.
8. Conduct annual staff trainings on topics such as OSHA Blood Borne Pathogens and Infection Control, and serve as a resource on health promotion and disease prevention.
9. Stay current with professional development and Connecticut laws related to immunizations, medication, health records, and other health issues.
10. Provide healthcare and emergency services to injured or ill students and staff.
11. Assist families in accessing medical homes, HUSKY insurance, immunizations, dental care, and other health needs.
12. Attend staff meetings and perform other nursing or professional duties as required.
Qualifications
* Valid Connecticut RN license.
* Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
* Current CPR certification.
* At least one year of clinical nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics or community health.

Work Year: 10 months. Salary according to contract.
