Agus tionscnamh úrnua á thosú againn, díreoidh ár gcéad Chomhfhreagraí Gaeltachta riamh aird náisiúnta ar shaincheisteanna a théann i bhfeidhm ar dhaonraí i gceantair na Gaeltachta. Ba mhaith leisThe Journalna saincheisteanna sin a bhfuil spéis an phobail iontu a thabhairt chun solais agus tús áite a thabhairt dóibh - idir chosaint na hoidhreachta agus tithíocht, agus fiontraíocht agus forbairt chultúrtha - de réir mar a thagann siad chun Cinn.

Beidh an méid a leanas i gceist leis an ról:
* Scéalta nuachta úrnua a tháirgeadh
* Tuairisciú a dhéanamh ar scéalta is tábhachtaí na seachtaine, ag díriú ar dhearcthaí úra agus ar scéalta leantacha ó na réigiúin
* Obair a dhéanamh go dlúth le heagarthóirí dheasc na nuachta chun tuairisciú géarchúiseach agus tuisceanach a chur ar fáil ar shaincheisteanna atá ábhartha do na réigiúin.
* Ábhar a chaithfear a léamh a shainaithint agus a chur ar fáil a neartaíonn eolas an sprioclucht ghinearálta ar an méid atá ag tarlú sna réigiúin.
* Ábhar fuaime agus físeáin a chruthú chun tuairiscí i scríbhinn a chomhlánú
* Na meáin shóisialta a úsáid chun teagmháil a dhéanamh le spriocluchtanna níos leithne le pacáistí scéalta
* Ag freagairt d’eachtraí tábhachtacha úrnua
* Tuairisciú a chur ar fáil ar chruinnithe agus ar ghníomhaíochtaí na n-údarás áitiúil
Beidh na nithe a leanas ag an iarrthóir rathúil:

* Scéalta agus dearcthaí tábhachtacha ó na réigiúin a shainaithint ina mbeadh spéis ag spriocluchtThe Journal
* An croí a bheith istigh i mbailiú nuachta agus i scéalta faoi na réigiúin nach bhfuil an oiread sin eolais orthu a insint do spriocluchtanna
* Líonra mór teagmhálacha agus foinsí a bheith aige/aici ar fud na réigiún
* Scileanna sármhaithe scríofa agus scéalaíochta a bheith aige/aici sa dá theanga
* Cuntas teiste cruthaithe a bheith aige/aici ar nuacht réigiúnach a thuairisciú
* Bheith ina t(h)uairisceoir sármhaith nuachta ginearálta
* Bheith in ann gníomhú as a stuaim féin agus bheith in ann oibriú go maith leis an deasc eagarthóireachta
* Idirghabháil a dhéanamh le tuairisceoirí eile maidir le scéalta, agus leas á bhaint as a gcuid saineolais chun aschur na foirne uile a mhéadú

Gaeltacht Correspondent

The Journalcontinues to grow as one of the most used and trusted sources of news in Ireland and is now looking to hire an experienced news journalist for an exciting new role.

Kick-starting a brand-new initiative, our first-ever Gaeltacht Correspondent will put a national spotlight on issues impacting populations in Gaeltacht areas.The Journalwants to surface and prioritise these newsworthy issues - ranging from housing to heritage protection, enterprise to cultural development - as they arise.

We are looking for a reporter, based in the west of the country, who has a track record of breaking stories and providing in-depth coverage of important news events in the regions.

Fluent Irish is essential. The successful candidate will be tasked with producing written, audio and video content in Irish and English.

The role will entail:
* Producing original news stories
* Reporting on the week’s most important news, focusing on fresh angles and followups from the regions
* Working closely with newsdesk editors to provide sharp and insightful coverage of issues pertinent to the regions
* Identifying and delivering must-read content which deepens a general audience’s knowledge of what’s happening in the regions
* Creating audio and video content to complement written reports
* Using social media to reach a wider audience with story packages
* Responding to major breaking events
* Providing coverage of local authority meetings and activities
The successful candidate will:
* Have the ability to increaseThe Journal’s output of stories which tell the story of these regions of Ireland
* Identify key stories and angles from the regions to interestThe Journal’s audience
* Be passionate about news-gathering and telling audiences the lesser-known stories of the areas
* Have a large network of contacts and sources across the regions
* Have excellent writing and storytelling skills in both languages
* Have a proven record of covering regional news
* Be an excellent general news reporter
* Be a self-starter who can work well with editorial desk
* Liaise with other reporters on stories, bringing their expertise to elevate the whole team’s output

Skills required:
* At least three years’ experience in a news journalism role
* Fluent Irish
* Excellent contacts across various sectors and networks in the west of the country
* Excellent news judgement
* Proven ability to self-start and deliver on original stories
* Comfort with and expertise in the production of online content
* Knowledge and experience of Ireland’s legal framework around defamation, publishing and copyright
