We are seeking a Senior / Principal Civil Engineer to be based in our Galway office. The successful candidate will work in a civil engineering team within a multidisciplinary office and shall work on varied projects. Our current workload in building and site development projects includes Education, Residential, Healthcare, Industrial, Commercial and Energy Sectors for both public and private clients. The civil engineering team typically designs the foul, surface water and watermain layouts for the above sectors and manages all civil engineering aspects from inception to completion. This team has a good working knowledge of traffic and roads design and leans on the specialist Highways and Traffic team within AtkinsRéalis for detailed input where required. The candidate should be self‑motivated, enthusiastic, hardworking, flexible, willing to take responsibility and comfortable working as part of a team.
Responsibilities
* Act as a Lead Civil Engineer as part of Multidisciplinary Design Teams.
* Provide design input and oversight of the delivery of all Civil aspects of projects with a focus on drainage and watermain design and a good knowledge of basic road design principles.
* Prepare project reports (Planning, Tender, Construction Stage) with an ability to communicate complex technical matters with crystal clear clarity.
* Communicate design intent via PowerPoint presentations.
* Prepare fee proposals and site specific quality response submissions for design contracts with public sector clients.
* Communicate with internal and external parties via email.
* Oversee preparation of design drawings for planning, tender and construction purposes.
* Prepare design calculations for internal and external review.
* Undertake duties of Ancillary Certifier for the Civil engineering discipline on building projects (external works, drainage, watermain etc).
* Financially manage design budgets.
* Supervise and mentor other civil engineers who will be reporting into the successful candidate.
* Manage both personal workload and the workload of a small team of civil engineers who will report into the candidate.
About You
* Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland or equivalent (overseas Charterships ideally subject to Mutual Recognition with Engineers Ireland; other Charterships not subject to EI MRA may be considered).
* Good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritise and manage personal and team workload effectively.
* Experience in delivery of drainage design in Causeway or Micro‑drainage.
* Proficient in MS Office Suite.
* Experience in use of Autotrack software.
* Experience acting as Lead Project Civil engineer on multi‑disciplined projects (meeting attendance with clients and other design team members, etc).
