Currently operating in the B2C, B2B & Enterprise channels, we are an international team located predominantly in Ireland and the UK.About the roleWe are looking for an Assistant Accountant (ideally qualified Accounting Technician, or part qualified ACCA or similar) to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end processes, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. This role is ideal for someone with solid accounting fundamentals who wants to develop their career in a fast-paced, technology-focused environment.We are based in Blackrock, Co. Dublin, but the role is hybrid with a flexible hours option.Key responsibilitiesFinancial Recording & ReportingMaintain accurate books of accounts using accounting softwareProcess invoices, receipts, and payments in a timely mannerPrepare and post journal entriesAssist with month-end and year-end closing proceduresSupport preparation of management accounts and financial statementsMaintain fixed asset registers and calculate depreciationAccounts Payable & ReceivableProcess supplier invoices and ensure proper authorizationManage accounts payable aging and payment runsMonitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding debtsReconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepanciesHandle customer billing for training programs and coursesDealing with student finance queries and payment processing, including payment plan arrangementsBank & General Ledger ReconciliationPerform daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliationsReconcile general ledger accountsInvestigate and resolve reconciling itemsMaintain supporting documentation for all reconciliationsCompliance & Administrative SupportAssist with VAT returns preparation and submissionSupport external audit processesMaintain filing systems and ensure document retention policies are followedAssist with budget preparation and variance analysisSupport ad-hoc financial analysis and reportingQualifications, skills & experienceAccounting Technician qualification (AAT Level 3 or 4) ORCurrently studying towards ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent professional qualificationStrong academic background in accounting, finance, or related fieldAbout 3 years of accounting experience in industry (commercial environment preferred)Experience with computerised accounting systems (Xero or similar)Previous experience in month-end closing processesExperience with accounts payable and receivable functionsProficient in Google Sheets (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, advanced formulas)Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping principlesExperience with VAT regulations and returnsFamiliarity with banking procedures and reconciliationsDesirable:Experience in the education or training sector and familiarity with student management systemsKnowledge of IT industry practices and terminology and/or familiarity with CRMExperience with revenue recognition principlesBasic understanding of management accounting principlesPrevious experience with audit processesPersonal attributesExcellent attention to detail and accuracyStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to work independently and manage multiple prioritiesStrong communication skills, both written and verbal for liaising with students, suppliers and internal teamsDeadline-driven with excellent time managementProfessional approach and ability to maintain confidentialityAdaptability to work in a fast-paced environmentCode Institute is an equal opportunities employer and prides itself on diversity and inclusivity across our staff and our student body alike.
