Job Description
We are seeking an Engineering Manager to join our engineering team based at Manorhamilton Road (MHR), Sligo. This role reports to the Operations Engineering Manager and is responsible for leading and managing a team of engineers, technicians, and apprentices.
The Engineering Manager will support the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) business unit. The role involves team development, budget management, collaboration with production, and ensuring compliance with policies relating to Personnel, Quality, Engineering, Safety, and Finance.
This is a varied position requiring cross-functional collaboration with contract maintenance providers, production, technical operations, quality, and other stakeholders to ensure optimal equipment performance. The role includes working on a range of projects, from continuous improvement initiatives to new product introductions. Experience within an API manufacturing environment is essential.
Roles and Responsibilities
Establish departmental goals, schedules, and timelines in conjunction with the Operations Engineering Manager
Support the development and management of manufacturing equipment
Ensure manufacturing equipment is maintained in compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, and corporate standards
Develop and implement CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) plans with defined timelines
Conduct investigations and monitor equipment performance to improve manufacturing efficiency (e.g., reducing downtime, maximizing output and yield)
Lead and support equipment and process upgrades within a continuous improvement framework
Develop monthly engineering metrics and deliver timely management reports
Manage departmental budgets and prepare capital expenditure requests as required
Support and ensure successful outcomes for internal and external audits
Promote and enforce high safety standards and safe working practices
Manage internal and external engineering projects as required
Supervise and maintain effective relationships with external contractors
Participate in relevant meetings and drive actions through to completion
Qualifications
Degree (Level 7 or higher) in Engineering or a scientific discipline (e.g., Chemistry)
Minimum of 6 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including at least 2 years in a supervisory engineering role
Proven experience in an API manufacturing facility, particularly within an Engineering function
Experience with equipment such as glass‑lined vessels, reactors, pumps, heat exchangers, as well as knowledge of ATEX and solvent handling
Strong attention to detail to ensure compliance with procedures and standards
Excellent problem‑solving skills with the ability to make timely and effective engineering decisions
