We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Art & Makerspace Teacher to inspire creativity and curiosity in our 6th-8th grade students.
Position Overview
The Middle School Art & Makerspace Teacher will design and deliver engaging lessons that integrate traditional art practices with modern maker technologies.
This individual will inspire students to explore various mediums, build critical problems-solving skills, and develop a love of artistic expression and innovation.
Responsibilities
Design and implement a comprehensive curriculum blending visual arts, design thinking, and makerspace activities.
Teach foundational art techniques, principles of design, and 3D modeling, alongside technology-driven skills such as laser cutting, 3D printing, and coding.
Foster a safe, creative, and collaborative learning environment where students can experiment, prototype, and create.
Manage and maintain the makerspace tools, materials, and technology to ensure safe and effective use.
Collaborate with colleagues to integrate art and maker activities into interdisciplinary projects.
Assess student progress through project-based assessments, exhibitions, and portfolios.
Organize art showcases, exhibitions, or makerspace events to celebrate student work.
Actively support the school's mission to cultivate creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving in all students.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, Design, or a related field.
Valid teaching certification (or ability to obtain certification) in Art Education or a related subject.
Experience in teaching art and/or managing makerspace activities, preferably at the middle school level.
Proficiency with makerspace tools, technology, and software (e.g., 3D printers, laser cutters, CAD software, etc.).
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage middle school learners.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in integrating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) into curriculum design.
Background in project-based learning (PBL) and interdisciplinary teaching.
Passion for cultivating creativity and curiosity in diverse student populations.
