Job Description
Location: Bantry (with opportunity to pick up shifts across West Cork and potential additional hours in Cork)
Hours: Up to 30 hours per week (5 over 7), flexible shift pattern
Pay: €15.59 per hour
Contract: School term time (with occasional holiday cover)
The role is an Evening Caretaker based in Bantry with opportunities at other West Cork schools and possibly in university settings in Cork City. The position requires a reliable, proactive individual with good practical/DIY skills, able to work independently, and be a trusted presence during evening hours (typically 6:30 pm‑8:30 pm on weekdays, with potential 12‑hour weekend shifts).
What you’ll do
Be the onsite point of contact during evening hours (6:30 pm‑8:30 pm weekdays)
Provide site supervision during sports events and occasional weekend tournaments (including potential 12‑hour shifts on Saturdays or Sundays)
Act as a Fire Warden (training/certification required)
Provide basic First Aid assistance in emergencies
Support safe operation of the building, including HVAC systems
Carry out light maintenance and DIY tasks as required
Ensure premises remain secure, safe and well‑maintained
Report incidents, hazards or maintenance issues promptly
What you’ll bring
Strong sense of responsibility and reliability
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends during school term time
Practical DIY or maintenance skills
Ability to work independently and respond calmly in emergencies
Good communication skills
Previous experience as a caretaker, handy person, facilities assistant or fire warden (desirable but not essential)
Fire Warden and First Aid certification (or willingness to complete training)
