The Family Support Worker will play a key role in supporting families of autistic children, young people, and adults. The role involves providing information, advocacy, and hands-on assistance to help families access appropriate services, understand autism, and develop strategies to promote wellbeing, communication, and positive relationships at home and in the community.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide emotional and practical support to families and caregivers of autistic individuals, helping them navigate daily challenges and celebrate progress.
* Conduct needs assessments and develop individualised family support plans in collaboration with parents and caregivers.
* Offer information, advice, and referrals to autism-related services, educational supports, therapeutic interventions, and community resources.
* Advocate on behalf of families with schools, healthcare providers, and statutory agencies to ensure access to appropriate supports and entitlements.
* Facilitate parent support groups, workshops, and information sessions to build understanding and community connection.
* Conduct home visits and maintain regular communication with families to review progress and provide ongoing guidance.
* Work closely with ASD Ireland's multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic, person-centred support.
* Maintain accurate, confidential records and reports in line with GDPR and organizational policies.
* Contribute to ASD Ireland's mission of promoting autism acceptance and inclusion through community engagement and awareness initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
* Education: Relevant qualification in Social Work, Social Care, Psychology, Community Development, Education, childcare or related field.
* Experience: Minimum of 2 years' experience supporting individuals or families affected by autism or other developmental conditions.
* Knowledge: Strong understanding of autism spectrum conditions, neurodiversity, and inclusive practices within education, health, and social care systems.
Skills and Competencies
* Empathetic, patient, and non-judgmental approach when working with families and individuals.
* Strong interpersonal, listening, and advocacy skills.
* Ability to provide guidance in a strengths-based, family-centred manner.
* Excellent organizational, time management, and documentation skills.
* Capable of working independently and as part of a supportive team.
* Familiarity with Irish health, education, and disability service systems is desirable.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management software.
Additional Requirements
* Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for home visits and community outreach.
* Garda Vetting required.
* Flexibility to work evenings or weekends to meet family needs.
* Fluent English Language required
