Role OverviewThe Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the design, development, and commissioning of automated systems and machinery. This role combines mechanical engineering expertise with control systems and software knowledge to deliver fully integrated automation solutions.Key ResponsibilitiesProject Leadership & DeliveryLead automation projects from concept, through design, installation, commissioning, and validation.Define project requirements, schedules, and deliverables, ensuring quality and compliance.Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers.Control Systems & SoftwareDevelop, program, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems.Design automation logic, simulate, test, and troubleshoot control systems.Ensure seamless integration between mechanical components and software systems.System Design & IntegrationDesign and optimize automated machinery and production lines.Recommend improvements to existing systems and processes.Work with robotics, motion control, and safety systems as needed.Documentation & SupportPrepare technical documentation, including specifications, manuals, and reports.Provide technical support and troubleshooting for deployed systems.Mentor and guide junior engineers and technicians.QualificationsEducation & ExperienceDegree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronic, or Automation Engineering (or equivalent).Minimum 5 years' experience in automation, control systems, and mechanical integration.Technical SkillsStrong experience with PLC programming and HMI/SCADA platforms.Knowledge of industrial communications, motion control, and automation safety systems.Familiarity with robotics, mechanical integration, and validation processes.Soft SkillsStrong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.Proactive, collaborative, and adaptable in dynamic environments.For a confidential conversation about the role please apply for the role or contact Owen Clancy at By applying to this job post you agree that Sterling Engineering may process your personal data for recruitment purpose.
