Overview
Systems Engineer, Managed Operations at AWS. AWS is introducing the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) and is seeking experienced systems engineers with a strong cloud operations background to join the AWS Managed Operations team. You will help build and lead operations and development teams delivering high-availability AWS services (EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, Bedrock) for EU customers.

Responsibilities
* Oversee the launch of the ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology.
* Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance day-to-day operations and improve availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.
* Operate and improve one of the largest software systems, review the operational health of the services, and write actionable bug reports when anomalies are found.
* Follow change management processes to implement changes in production systems and address the team’s backlog of operational issues.
* Develop scripts or tools to help root cause analysis and accelerate problem resolution, and share improvements with the team.
* Occasionally participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents outside of standard hours.
Eligibility
* Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
* Employees must be resident in the EU to operate the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.
* Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union.
* Employees will participate in an on-call rota.

Basic Qualifications
* National of an EU member state.
* Bachelor's degree in computer science (or related IT discipline) or equivalent industry experience.
* Knowledge or experience in scripting (Bash, Python, or Ruby) or software development (Java, TypeScript, or similar), with Linux and networking fundamentals to troubleshoot and optimize system performance and reliability.
Preferred Qualifications
* Ability to execute standard operating procedures and follow operational best practices.
* Knowledge or experience operating services in AWS or other cloud systems.
* Experience operating 24x7 high-availability, distributed software applications, tuning performance, optimizing fleet utilization, and using monitoring frameworks (CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic or similar).
* Knowledge or experience with Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar).
