Barden are delighted to be supporting our Global Food and Beverage manufacturing client in their search for a Senior Automation Engineer.
About the role
Reporting to the Maintenance & Plant Engineering Manager. You will play a pivotal role in driving the future of automated manufacturing. You’ll be at the heart of operations, ensuring systems run efficiently, safely, and seamlessly across multiple sites. This is your chance to combine technical expertise with creative problem-solving to make a tangible impact on the business.
Responsibilities
* Deliver hands‑on automation and manufacturing support across the sites, focusing on streamlining processes, standardisation, and continuous improvement.
* Take a lead role in reviewing, approving, and executing validation protocols to ensure systems perform flawlessly.
* Support exciting new projects including capital projects.
* Develop and review User Requirement Specifications (URS) for process and automation systems, ensuring precision and alignment with business needs.
* Act as a go‑to technical advisor for IT operations and maintenance teams, solving complex challenges and driving system reliability.
* Create and maintain accurate operational documentation for plant control system infrastructure, ensuring clarity and compliance.
* Safeguard plant safety, environmental standards, and quality by managing changes in automation systems through rigorous change control processes.
* Continuously explore emerging technologies, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, functionality, and automation capabilities.
* Propose system, process, and operational improvements that boost safety, efficiency, and overall business performance.
* Collaborate closely with major equipment vendors, ensuring compliance with specifications and attending key project milestones such as kick‑off meetings and pre‑FAT inspections.
About the person
Qualifications
* Engineering degree qualified with minimum 5 years process control, PLC / scada, IT architecture and operations experience, with proven track record of design and delivery of high impact technology solutions.
* Experience in Automation Validation in accordance with GAMP and cGMP.
* Experience in the development of the following would be advantageous: Allen‑Bradley PLC’s, Wonderware InTouch, InSQL, Profibus, ControlNet, DeviceNet, EtherNet.
* Ability to manage and prioritize multiple high impact projects simultaneously.
