I'm currently recruiting for an Medical Receptionist (Grade IV) to join a busy team in Portlaoise, Co.
Laois. As a Main Receptionist / Switchboard Operator, you will usually be the first point of contact for patients and visitors.
You will operate switchboard equipment to receive calls and direct them to the appropriate person or department.
This is a very busy environment requiring strong communication and organisational skills.
This Grade IV role will involve working between Main Reception/Switchboard and the Admissions Office.
Previous experience working on a switchboard or busy reception desk is essential.
Main Switch/Reception operates on a 7-day roster and may include evenings and weekends (no night duty).
Admissions Office cover will typically be Monday to Friday, with the possibility of occasional weekend cover where required (approximately 5 hours per weekend shift).
THE ROLE Reception Duties: Greet patients and visitors and direct them to the appropriate department Answer and redirect incoming calls via the main switchboard Respond to patient queries and assist with scheduling appointments Multitask in a busy, fast-paced reception environment Admissions Office Duties: Register patient admissions, transfers and discharges on the hospital system Ensure all patient details and documentation are accurately recorded and updated Liaise with wards, nursing staff and medical teams regarding patient admissions and bed allocation Prepare and process patient charts and documentation in line with hospital procedures Maintain accurate admission records while ensuring confidentiality and GDPR compliance Administration Duties: Maintain the computer clinic system in an accurate and secure manner Maintain filing and administrative systems so written and electronic records are easily accessible and secure Provide an efficient audio typing, copy typing and word processing service for clinical and management teams when required Prepare correspondence including letters, reports and patient referrals in an accurate and timely manner This role may require weekend work when required.
Hours can vary between 8:00am and 10:00pm depending on roster requirements.
Pay Rate: €19.50 per hour REQUIREMENTS Previous experience working on a busy reception desk or switchboard (essential) Medical terminology and understanding of medical systems Excellent customer service and communication skills Strong diary management and organisational skills Dictaphone typing / typing skills Good IT skills (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) Understanding of GDPR and confidentiality requirements Must be available to start immediately This is a temporary role with a view to start immediately.
