Commissioning Engineer Job Description
About the Role:
The client is a critical utility infrastructure service provider seeking a Commissioning Engineer to join their substation team in Dublin.
The successful candidate will plan and carry out commissioning testing of substation equipment, with a focus on protection equipment, to ensure network capital investment is safe and fit for purpose.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Commission primary, secondary, and ancillary plant forming part of the Transmission System.
2. Test instrument transformers, power transformers, and HV GIS switchgear during commissioning.
3. Verify protection relay functionality using Omicron test equipment.
4. Maintain accurate test records and collate results for Health and Safety File inclusion.
5. Analyze schematics, cubicle wiring, and functional test data.
6. Demonstrate knowledge of typical protection philosophies applied to Transmission Systems.
7. Participate in regular project meetings with the client and project manager, addressing arising actions.
8. Evaluate site safety before engaging in commissioning activities.
9. Contribute to Method Statement/Risk Assessment development for commissioning work activities.
10. Work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating self-motivation.
Requirements:
1. Hold relevant qualifications such as HNC/Degree in Electrical Engineering.
2. Possess experience in commissioning substations with voltages up to 400kV.
3. Familiarity with supplier protection equipment from ABB, Siemens, Toshiba, and station digital control systems (SCS).
