Job Title: Data Centre Shift Lead Technician
Location: Dublin Campus
Commence Date: Immediate
Work Times: 12-hour shift (days and nights)
Purpose of Job
The Shift Lead Technician will work as part of an operational team to support the Critical environment 24/7/365. The shift lead will manage the shift team, who is responsible for the monitoring, escalation, emergency response and operation of critical services within the data center environment. The shift team will operate out of the central facilities operation centre and will ensure all aspects of the facility are covered & monitored during their shift. The Shift team will also work alongside the day operations team to align CE equipment through Electrical or Mechanical switching activities to facilitate break/fix and planned preventive maintenance (PM) activities across the campus.
Responsibilities

Be the main point of contact on the Shift for the client & CBRE management.
Monitor all critical systems across campus from the central facilities operation centre and ensure all incidents are escalated and responded to as per Runbook and SLA metrics.
Supervise the central facilities operation centre and the shift team during your shift rotation.
Monitor and respond to abnormal conditions in critical facility systems through the use of recognized escalation tools and EOPs.
Work collaboratively with the Shift Supervisors to stabilise affected systems during incident response; remain the incident owner and close out the incident on satisfactory completion.
Provide detailed status reports during incidents through agreed channels.
Ensure all incident notifications are up to date during your shift and then closed out correctly as per site procedures when the task is completed.
Stay abreast of changes and improvement initiatives led by CBRE and the client.
Be fully conversant with the facility Emergency Response Plan, EOPs, and act as the shift liaison with the security team during site emergencies.
Provide a detailed shift handover report to the incoming shift team, in written format and supported by verbal handover, covering all aspects of the operation of the facility.
Have a full overview & awareness of all activities in conjunction with the day tech team.
Train in the operation of all critical facility systems across the campus as outlined in the site‑specific CBRE training syllabus, covering Electrical, Mechanical, Building Monitoring, Fire and Controls.
Assist the day tech team in shutting down/startups of equipment as per site operational procedures to support all PM/CM activities (MOP) carried out by the PM Team or Vendors.
Ensure all members of your shift team are using the CMMS correctly to report all facility related tasks; all technician time must be accounted for & recorded in CMMS.
Foster a culture of continued professional development through mentoring team members and building a lessons‑learned and feedback repository in conjunction with fellow shift leads and supervisors.
Lead and manage your team’s technical & personal development and appraisals within the constraints of the contract and CBRE policies; provide detailed reports to CBRE management on this development, showing progress & ensuring all appraisals/reviews are completed when required.
Author, peer‑review, approve or carry out periodic reviews of all operational documentation (including EOP’s, drills etc.) as issued by the Technical Manager.
Ensure a shift audit is carried out on all critical systems within the central facilities operation centre – BMS, EPMS and Fireworks at the end of your shift.
Mentor your shift team to progress through all training requirements on site.
Carry out drills & complete toolbox talks as per KPI tracker.
Adhere to all quality, health & safety, and environmental policies on site.
Ensure the central facilities operation centre and all work areas are clean and tidy at all times.
Ensure you & your shift team wear the CBRE uniform, including appropriate PPE as issued; present the professional image of CBRE to clients and visitors at all times while on site.
Take the lead in onboarding and training new staff members on your shift.

Qualifications and Experience

A fully verifiable trade qualification in a relevant engineering discipline and additional training that is relevant to the proposed environment.
Understanding of LV power distribution and loading; previous data centre (or similar lab) experience is desirable.
Excellent understanding and experience of the electrical and mechanical systems used in a data centre environment, including feeders, transformers, generators, fuel systems, switchgear, UPS systems, battery banks, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units, chillers, air‑handling units, CRAC units, fire alarm systems and fire suppression systems.
Experience of complex automatic control equipment, including relay logic, PLCs, building management systems and their integration with the data centre infrastructure.
Experience of medium‑voltage distribution systems and associated switchgear and protection equipment.
Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate intelligently and effectively with the client and contractors performing maintenance or upgrade work on the data centre systems.
Computer literate with ability to compile and submit monthly and annual reports, and to monitor and trend operational characteristics (load, capacity, environmental conditions etc.); proficient in Microsoft Office products.
Ability to learn quickly and to gain maximum benefit from extensive training and development programs; ability to address any identified knowledge or experience deficiencies in the short term.
Availability to work shifts and to provide emergency cover as required.
Organised, able to effectively prioritise and deliver within a dynamic and high‑pressure, business‑critical environment.
Self‑motivated, with ability to work on own initiative.

Circumstances
The shift technician is the next point of contact to cover shifts during emergency situations, providing holiday and sickness cover at short notice. Flexibility in working patterns is required to support the rhythm of the business and operational demands.
