The health region is responsible for the delivery of acute and community healthcare across South Dublin, Wicklow, Wexford, Waterford, Carlow, Kilkenny and South Tipperary.Skills and attributesCross-functional Team LeadershipNursingNursing ManagementQuality Patient CareStrategic CommunicationsHealth and SafetyNursing AdministrationQuality and Patient SafetyDescriptionThe Role:The purpose is to inform and guide healthcare staff across the region in the recognition, treatment and appropriate referral of patients with sepsis with the intention of:Improving sepsis recognition• Ensuring that staff are educated to recognise patients with sepsis, have ‘Sepsis 6’ performed within one hour of sepsis recognition, identify patients with septic shock and escalate care as appropriate.• Reducing mortality and morbidity from sepsis in Ireland.• Reducing the economic burden of sepsis.The ADON-Sepsis will represent the DSE Region nationally and be a point of contact between the National Sepsis Team and the Region including the 11 acute hospitals.The ADON-Sepsis will assist with the implementation of other relevant projects should they arise.The ADON will represent the Region nationally and be a point of contact between the National Sepsis Programme and the Region.The ADON will also:• Work, in a leadership capacity, with the National Clinical Lead and the DSE DON (with Sepsis oversight), RDONM, local executive management teams (in particular the Directors of Nursing, Clinical Directors and local sepsis/deteriorating patient committees) and local change groups.• While providing programme and change management support to sites, the ADON will be required to work collaboratively with other interdependent national clinical programmes and relevant Divisions of the HSE to include the Quality and Patient Safety Division.The ADON will work within Regional Clinical Governance structures to ensure a joined-up approach to the implementation of the National Clinical Guideline for Sepsis Management: No 26The Person:This campaign is confined to staff who are currently employed by the HSE, TUSLA, other statutory health agencies*, or a body which provides services on behalf of the HSE under Section 38 of the Health Act 2004 as per Workplace Relations Commission agreement -1618671. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:(i) Currently employed by the HSE, TUSLA, other statutory health agencies*, or a body which provides services on behalf of the HSE under Section 38 of the Health Act 2004(ii) registered, or are eligible for registration, in the General Nurse Division, and other divisions as relevant to the specific service, of the Register of Nurses and Midwives, as appropriate, maintained by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).And(iii) Have 7 years post registration nursing experience and 3 years nursing management experience at a minimum of Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (CNM 2) in an acute setting.And(iv) Have successfully completed a post registration programme of study, as certified by the education provider, which verifies that the applicant has achieved a National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major academic Level 8 or higher award maintained by Quality & Qualifications of Ireland (QQI) or can provide written evidence from the Higher Education Institute that they have achieved the number of ECTS credits equivalent to a Level 8 or higher standard in quality improvement or a health care or management related area.And(b) Candidates must possess the requisite clinical, leadership, managerial and administrative knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.2. Annual registration(i) Practitioners must maintain live annual registration in the General Nurse Division, and other divisions as relevant to the specific service, of the Register of Nurses and Midwives, as appropriate, maintained by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).And(ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).3. HealthCandidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.4.
