Call for Treasurer Trustee (Voluntary)
As Mother Tongues continues to grow its reach and impact across Ireland, we are seeking a Treasurer to join our voluntary Board of Directors. Joining our Board is a unique opportunity to guide the governance and future strategic direction of a dynamic non-profit organisation.
The role
The Treasurer is a Board member with specific responsibility for financial oversight. The role involves chairing or actively participating in the Finance Subcommittee and ensuring the organisation maintains strong financial governance, transparency, and sustainability.
The Treasurer works closely with the CEO, bookkeeper, and external accountants and reports to the full Board.
Oversee the financial affairs of the organisation on behalf of the Board
Monitor income, expenditure, cash flow, and financial risk
Ensure appropriate internal financial controls are in place
Lead engagement with external accountants and/or auditors
Support the preparation and Board approval of the annual budget
Oversee preparation of Annual Accounts for Board and AGM approval
Advise the Board on the financial implications of strategic decisions
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and governance standards
Support the organisation in its potential transition to charitable status
Person Specification
Resident in Ireland
Experience in finance, accounting, bookkeeping, or financial management
Experience in the non-profit, social enterprise, or arts sector
Ability to interpret financial reports and advise at Board level
Understanding of governance and fiduciary responsibilities
Capacity to contribute strategically and independently
Availability to commit approximately 5 hours per month
Resident in Co. Dublin or surrounding counties
Familiarity with Irish charity and company governance requirements
Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Charities Act 2009 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2008.
Board Commitment
5 online Board meetings per year
Participation in Finance Subcommittee meetings
Preparation and review of financial documentation between meetings
Board members are expected to act with integrity, independence and in the best interests of the organisation, upholding high standards of governance and accountability.
