Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Research Associate - ERC Project RIGHTS TO UNITE - Norway within UCD Sutherland School of Law.

We seek to employ a Research Associate for the ERC project RIGHTS TO UNITE (Advanced Grant) led by Prof Dagmar Schiek, for a duration of 18 months starting on 1 October 2025 the latest (an earlier start is possible).

The RIGHTS TO UNITE Project aims to generate a new socio-legal theory of European integration based on citizens' experience of European integration through rights, and to explore its viability through qualitative research using liberal/economic, social and digital rights as fields of research. Its multi-level comparison encompasses smaller states in the EU and its neighbourhood, more specifically four EU countries (Ireland, Czech Republic, Greece and Sweden) and four neighbourhood states (Northern Ireland, Norway, North Macedonia and Georgia). The PDR joins the project in its second year, with the aim to complete socio-legal research contributing to the project's theoretical frame and to qualitative comparative research on citizens' experience of European integration through rights, with a focus on Norway. The project team also comprises two Postdoctoral researchers, a number of PhD researchers and a project manager (more information on https://rightstounite.eu/ )

For this Research Associate, we are looking for a highly motivated and qualified researcher with an emerging profile in socio-legal studies of the European Union, with an understanding of the Norwegian experience of European integration and of legal comparison. This post requires the ability to work at academic levels in English, and ideally also in Norwegian. Career development opportunities specific to this project comprise presenting work at international conferences, contributing to project academic seminars and co-authoring peer reviewed publications.

Salary Scale: €37,500 - €50,200 Per Annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Additional Information

Eligibility criteria

Mandatory:

*PhD in European studies (including but not limited to law, political science, sociology), awarded or close to
completion OR a master's degree in European studies (as above).
*A demonstrated capacity to conduct comparative socio-legal research, in English and ideally in Norwegian.
*Evidence of high-level academic publications, conference presentations or awards OR evidence of first publications.
*Ability to contribute independently OR ability to contribute to the RIGHTS-TO-UNITE research programme.
*Excellent ability to communicate in an academic context orally, in writing and through visually supported presentations in English.
*Proven ability to work to tight deadlines.
*Candidates must demonstrate an awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion agenda.

*Experience in conducting large focus groups (citizens' meetings).
*An understanding of how to disseminate academic findings on social media.
*Ability to work academically in Norwegian.
