Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in construction and proven experience in government procurement processes. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing project costs, ensuring value for money, and maintaining compliance with public sector procurement regulations across a range of infrastructure and building projects. This role is based in Cork and will be expected to travel across the South West regularly.
Key Responsibilities:
* Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and tender documentation for construction projects.
* Manage procurement processes in line with government frameworks and public sector regulations.
* Evaluate and negotiate contracts, ensuring compliance with legal and financial standards.
* Monitor project expenditures and provide regular cost reports and forecasts.
* Conduct risk, value management, and cost control exercises throughout project lifecycles.
* Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and government stakeholders to ensure project alignment.
* Administer contract variations, claims, and final accounts.
* Support project delivery teams with commercial advice and procurement strategy.
* Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
* Professional membership (e.g., RICS) preferred.
* Minimum 5 years of experience in quantity surveying within the construction industry.
* Demonstrated experience in government procurement and public sector tendering.
* Strong understanding of NEC, JCT, and other standard forms of contract.
* Proficiency in cost management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
* Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
Desirable Attributes:
* Experience working on infrastructure or capital works projects.
* Familiarity with sustainability and lifecycle costing principles.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
