As a Consultant in Anaesthsiology in the HSE you'll be a senior specialist member of this department at this university hospital. As the appointed Consultant, your duties will involve:
1. Delivering safe, high-quality anaesthetic care for both elective and emergency surgeries, including:
Pre-operative assessment
Intra-operative management
Post-operative care
2. Supervise and mentor junior doctors, nurses, and anaesthesia technicians
3. Participate in on-call rota, responding to emergency cases
4. Collaborate closely with surgical teams and other departments
5. Contribute to clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement initiatives
6. Engage in professional development, research, and teaching activities

This role is not a substantive post but will be an initial short-term contract of 12 months, to potentially be extended
Department focus:
7. Offers comprehensive perioperative care: pre-op assessment, intra-op management (general/regional anaesthesia), post-op care, ICU, pain medicine, and resuscitation .
8. Strong focus on regional anaesthesia, with dedicated block bay facilities performing ~2,000 nerve blocks per year
9. Integral role in teaching, serving medical students, interns, trainees, and nurses (ICU, peri-op, emergency care)
10. Rich schedule of educational and clinical governance activities: weekly lectures, morbidity & mortality reviews, ICU meetings, research forums, journal clubs
11. Recognised as a regional training centre for both basic and specialist registrar programmes, under Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland accreditation

Essential Criteria
18. Registration on the Irish Medical Council's Specialist Division in Anaesthesiology
19. Completion of Specialist Training (CCT or equivalent) in Anaesthesiology
20. Excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
21. Experience in regional anesthesia, pain management, or intensive care is advantageous
