The Head of Engineering is responsible for leading the organisation’s engineering function, ensuring the effective delivery of manufacturing and production across automation systems, analysing software data to improve product hardware development ,Research and Developments maintenance strategies, and quality standards. The role provides strategic leadership across engineering disciplines to drive operational excellence, innovation, reliability, and continuous improvement.
The Head of Engineering will oversee multidisciplinary teams and ensure engineering capabilities support business growth, operational efficiency, and high product or service quality.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement the overall engineering strategy aligned with organisational goals.
Lead engineering initiatives that support automation, digital transformation, operational efficiency, and scalability.
Establish engineering standards, processes, and best practices across all technical functions.
Provide strategic input into capital investment, technology adoption, and infrastructure development.
Drive innovation and continuous improvement across engineering operations.
Oversee the design, implementation, and optimisation of automated systems and processes.
Lead automation initiatives to improve efficiency, productivity, and operational reliability.
Ensure integration of automation technologies with existing operational and IT systems.
Evaluate and implement new technologies including robotics, industrial automation, and smart manufacturing solutions where applicable.
Software & Data Engineering
Lead the development and maintenance of engineering software systems, platforms, and tools.
Ensure effective use of data analytics to support operational decision-making and performance improvement.
Oversee the development of data architecture, reporting tools, and engineering-related software applications.
Ensure data integrity, security, and accessibility across engineering platforms.
Lead and develop multidisciplinary engineering teams including automation engineers, software engineers, maintenance engineers, and quality specialists.
Build a high-performance engineering culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
Support recruitment, mentoring, coaching, and professional development of engineering staff.
Establish clear objectives, performance metrics, and development plans for team members.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automation Engineering, or related field
10+ years of engineering experience with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams
Demonstrated experience with automation technologies, software systems, and engineering infrastructure
