Overview:
Olympic Handball Ireland is the National Governing Body (NGB) for the sport of Olympic Handball in Ireland. We are recognised by and affiliated to Sport Ireland, Sport Northern Ireland, the Olympic Federation of Ireland, European Handball Federation (headquartered in Vienna) and the International Handball Federation (headquartered in Basle).
The organisation is a CLG (Company Limited by Guarantee) and overseen by a Board of Directors. We have 3 permanent staff members.
Our main playing base is in primary and secondary schools with over 5,000+ players participating in annual competitions. A number of clubs including the main universities cater for the Men's and Women's League's and other competitions based mainly in Dublin, Cork and Belfast.
Handball in Ireland has experienced significant growth in the last number of years and we are now in a position to appoint a CEO to lead the development of the sport and foster future sustainable growth.
THE POSITION
As Chief Executive Officer, you will lead the organisation and be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of Olympic Handball Ireland and will be reporting to and accountable to the Board.
As CEO, you will be expected to understand member's needs, while having the ability to manage a complex portfolio of organisational responsibilities, including commercial and strategic priorities, operational effectiveness, stakeholder management, communications, and financial/governance controls.
You will be responsible for the effective management and coordination of full-time and contract staff and volunteers. To be considered for this role you will need to be an effective leader, with excellent stakeholder management capabilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership / Strategic Planning
* Work proactively with the Board and the organisation's key stakeholders to develop and deliver the goals of the Strategic Plan.
* Represent OHI in a responsible manner in line with the organisation's interests to all key stakeholders locally, nationally and internationally.
* Interact with members of staff and volunteers to foster understanding, commitment and encourage personal and professional development.
* Assist the board in the development of volunteer roles and policies in disciplines such as refereeing, coaching, team manager, competition and event organisers, local development officers
* Develop the values of OHI and role model expected behaviours such as integrity inclusivity, respect and teamwork.
* Encourage efficient and effective use of resources to deliver return on investment in support of strategic goals and objectives.
* Maintain and develop best practice management and governance protocols.
* Reporting is critical to the success of the OHI and the CEO must work with the Board in the delivery of timely and comprehensive reports for our key funding stakeholders and members.
* Create an environment where excellent relationships with all stakeholders are maintained and nourished.
* Ensuring an inclusive environment, with consultation and dialogue at its core, is a key priority for the organisation.
* Actively engage with schools, clubs and volunteers to strengthen and support increased participation and membership.
* Ensure all OHI competitions and events are organised and delivered to an agreed professional standard.
* Identify and develop relationships with new stakeholders to ensure the sport has the widest possible exposure to potential new participants and membership.
* Engage with EHF/IHF and other NGB's (eg. GB, Denmark) on the development and role out of international best practice in sporting requirements, events appointment of delegates and attendance at conferences and meetings representing OHI.
Financial/Governance/Risk Management
* Ensure the financial dealings of the organisation are managed in a prudential way reporting on same to the Treasurer (or an appointee) and the Board.
* Ensure OHI is at the forefront of best peer practice in all Governance matters and in full compliance with statutory frameworks.
* Explore and drive existing and potentially new revenue streams outside of statutory funding vehicles.
* Ensure risk management systems and policies are appropriate, current and applied.
* Ensure the successful ongoing coordination and resourcing of sub-committees in line with OHI policies.
Commercial, Marketing and Communications
* Manage commercial and sponsor relationships to maximise revenue certainty by building long-term partnerships.
* Identify new programmes and other innovative opportunities to expand the revenue base.
* Ensure that marketing, branding and communications activities are structured to strengthen the reputation of OHI and that of the sport.
* Engage with the marketing and communications team to ensure the strategic marketing and communications planning is being supported by the day to day posting on the web site and on social media (for example).
* Ensure resources are in place to make handball an attractive investment for potential sponsors and develop reporting tools for same
Experience Requirements

* Experience in a similar field, ideally in the sporting or not-for profit sectors.

* Strong, yet inclusive management and leadership style, with the ability to effectively build relationships with a wide variety of volunteers, professionals, governing bodies and other stakeholders.

* Experience of building relationships and collaborating effectively with multiple organisations and stakeholders to deliver mutually beneficial outcomes.
