Read our accompanying Employee Value Proposition to find out more.Welcome to a team that’s making a difference – powered by people like you.ApplicationsApplications will only be accepted through SDCC’s e-Recruitment system before midnight on Thursday, 26th March 2026.The RoleThe role of the Executive Technician GIS in Planning and Transportation Directorate could be within the Planning or Transport teams.The role will include the:Compilation, Analysis, and visualisation of data using GIS software for Departmental and Corporate use as appropriate.Publication of interactive mapping applications and data dashboards through enterprise or cloud-based systems for Departmental and Corporate use as appropriate.Management and creation of Departmental and Corporate datasets including documentation of schemas and recommendations for improvements.Preparation of maps and plans for the Planning and Transport teams.Supervision of junior staff and mentoring in the application of GIS.Producing presentation work for the Council and public displays survey.Small-scale design and supervision of walking, cycling, urban and street renewal schemes.Onsite inspections of site notices.Validation of planning applications, plotting planning applications, pre-planning and enforcement on GIS system.Any other activities as assigned by Line Manager / Supervisor.The office is full-time, permanent and pensionable. A panel will be formed to fill permanent and temporary vacancies. Persons employed will be required to work in any location within the South Dublin administrative area.Salary / Wages€52,440 - €53,675 - €54,956 - €56,261 - €57,585 - €58,900 - €60,821 (1st LS1) - €62,740 (2nd LSI).Hours of WorkThe successful candidates’ normal hours of work will be 35 hours per week. SDCC reserves the right to alter your hours of work from time to time.Annual LeaveAnnual leave entitlement for this position is 30 days.QualificationsCharacterCandidates will be of good character.HealthEach candidate must be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.Essential Education, Training and ExperienceEach candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms:have satisfactory experience, in a technician post at Grade II (two) or higher level or in an analogous post under a local authority or health board in the State,orhave at least five years satisfactory relevant experience in a technician post having attained qualification as a technician,have a wide knowledge of all the technical aspects of local authority work and a deeper knowledge of at least one section of the work,possess adequate training and experience relating to dealings with other departments within their own organisations and with other bodies, andhave adequate experience in the supervision and control of staff.Must demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS)Desirable Education, Training and ExperienceHold a full Category B driving licence, free from endorsement and will drive a motor car in the course of their duties or demonstrate ability to carry out site inspections in the County.Be proficient in the use of the ESRI Geographical Information Systems Suite Including ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, and ArcGIS online.Possess good IT and presentation skills, A knowledge Python or Arcade scripting languages, knowledge of Structured Query Language including Spatial queries, and experience in the use of ETL software such as FME (Feature Manipulation Engine) will be considered an advantage.Have a good understanding of safety management in the workplace including health and safety legislation and regulations.Possess good professional knowledge and skills.Be able to work independently or within multi-disciplined teams.Be capable of working on their own initiative.Possess good interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to engage with a wide range of people.Possess good organisational skills.Key Competencies / SkillsDeliveringresultsPerformancethroughPeoplePersonaleffectivenessLocalgovernmentknowledgeandunderstandingCandidates are requested to give an example of a situation which highlights the behaviour, skills and attitude that underpin effective performance in these areas and which demonstrates their suitability to meet the challenges of this role.Candidatesshouldensuretheexampleusedclearlydemonstratestheirabilityinthisareaandthatthescaleandscopeoftheexamplegivenisappropriatetothe post and level of the post.DutiesThe duties of the office are to give the local authority andsuch other local authorities or bodies for which the Chief Executive for the purposes of the City and County Management Acts is Chief Executive, andto any other local authority or body with which an agreement has been made by the local authority or by any of the authorities or bodies mentioned in sub-paragraph (a) of this paragraph, under the direction and supervision of the appropriate officer, such civil engineering, architectural / building, draughting, and other technical services of an advisory, supervisory or executive nature as may be required by any local authority or body hereinbefore mentioned in the exercise and performance of any of its powers, functions and duties including preparation of sketch plan designs and working-drawings, technical drawings, models including working knowledge of AutoCAD and B.I.M. and specifications and the duty of assisting the appropriate officer in the supervision of such services of any of the foregoing local authorities or bodies and, when required to do so, to perform the duty of acting for a Technician of higher rank during the absence of such officer of higher rank.
